...And for the record I'm only 37, but I ask this because I really dont watch any shows that other people watch or rave about and frankly, I dont miss them.

I dont watch Breaking Bad, The Bridge, Dexter, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Sons of Anarchy, Louie, How I Met your Mother, NCIS, Mad Men, etc.

Now maybe you watch some or all of these shows. I just cant get into them. The thing I dont miss not watching them. Does that make me an old fuddy duddy because it seems like everyone watches these shows?

How would you know you don't miss them if you don't watch them?

Actually, if you watched that show, you WOULD be a fuddy duddy! I think its average demographic age is pleistocene.

No, you're not.
I'm a SSH member and I don't read comics book.

I was going to say NCIS is especially popular among the older demographic but at 37 you're too young to qualify.

I watch most but not all of them but I'm a bit younger and I no longer read comic books (long, tragic story there) but I don't think what you watch/read necessarily makes you old or young either.

I don't think what you watch or don't watch on TV defines you in any way, shape or form.

The only show on your list that I watch is How I Met Your Mother.

I don't watch any of those others.

I do not know about the rest but for me to judge if you a old fuddy duddy or not

you must explain why you do not want to see this shows maybe if your reason is dam it TV is not as good as the old days I would say yes you are

How does what you watch not define who you are? It does a little bit. It's like saying there's no difference between somebody who enjoys reading stuff like Shakespeare or Mark Twain or Charles Dickens from somebody who is into Stephanie Meyer or Charlaine Harris. It doesn't define who you are but it does speak as to what kind of person you probably are

I disagree. Who's to say the person who reads Twilight or watches Big Brother isn't a brain-surgeon or a high powered lawyer? Maybe they just enjoy some 'trashy' escapism in their spare time. By that same token, maybe the guy digging a ditch on the road side enjoys some Shakespeare when he's at home.

What kinds of fiction one chooses to indulge isn't a reflection of who a person is. I'm sure there's a person or two who exists that enjoys both Twilight and Shakespeare for their individual merits (personally I enjoy neither, what does that make me?). The only defining factor you can determine about someone based on their entertainment choices (or in the case of this thread, lack of entertainment choices) is exactly that -what they like or don't like to be entertained by, nothing more.

Well of course but I'm meaning more like what's more typical. It's undeniable that usually a certain kind of people flock to a certain kind of fiction. Same for music or anything else. I mean, of course real life is more complex than that but it still applies. Just, not to every individual circumstance.

That was my first thought, too haha. I have no idea what it's suppose to mean that he 'doesn't miss not watching these shows'. I guess he's asking what everyone is replying to, about how watching something doesn't define, but some of the weirdest wording I've ever read.

Maybe he means he doesn't feel like he's missing out on anything by not watching those shows.

I know I don't.

I'm 35. I watch Walking Dead and Game of Thrones...but when it comes to most of the popular shows like Breaking Bad and Dexter I just don't like them. I don't like shows where the bad guy is the lead. Not into most crime shows either...and I thought Mad Men was OK, but kind of boring now.

What do you watch then?
The only network shows I watch is 2 Broke Girls which might be junk to some but has gotten better and funnier that I'm getting to like it.

And on Sundays it's just Family Guy on FOX, as much as I've been watching The Simpsons for ages it's way past it's glory days.

Aside from that I'm mostly watching cable shows like Impractical Jokers, Ridiculousness, Tosh.O, Guy Code/Girl Code, Toy Hunter.

Oh and I hate reality shows, I hate the Kardashians, Storage Wars, American Idol, Survivor, Big Brother, America's Got Talent, Pawn Stars, these are programs that make celebrities out of nobody's.

It's what you Dooooooooooooo that defines you!

"fuddy duddy"?

I said that jokingly to my 58 year old grandfather, and he winced and asked why I was speaking so old fashioned, not understanding that it was a joke.

Perhaps there is a problem here.

Perhaps.

I don't understand how you could even miss something you don't watch in the first place, but no, not caring about "watercooler" shows doesn't make you an old fuddy duddy. It just means you're not as much of a TV junkie as some other people. I'm sure there are things you like that other people don't care about, and don't feel like they're missing out by not caring about them either. That's just the way the world works.

I haven't gotten around to watch most of those shows with the exception of The Walking Dead. Maybe I'm the fuddy duddy.
