Episodic vs. Serialized Television. Which is More Effective?

I prefer serialized shows as episodic shows can get repetitive which becomes boring for me.

I vastly prefer serialized style but I think there is room to squeeze in some one offs here and there like the various "Meta" episodes of Supernatural

Some shows like Breaking Bad work best in a serialized format, but not every show works best that way, and to be frank, there are also multiple serialized shows that failed due to going through the wrong format, Blade: The Series for example was honestly more suited for episodic storylines.

From what I had read the Blade show had great ratings but failed because it was too expensive to produce, maybe that's inaccurate, who knows?
