Hey I was wondering if anyone could answer couple of questions for me. Bear in mind I'm no expert in comics. Ok, first of all what's the difference between Chromium and Variant covers and how does it affect their value? Secondly what is the current value for issue 300 of Spidey (Variant cover), yeah the Venom one? Also, if I find it at a nearly cheap price, do you think I should go for it or not, cause majority of people are selling it for more than 100$ so I'm not sure if its a real deal.

Okay, the original, first printing of ASM#300 is the one featuring Sppider-Man in his black costume, with the number "300" everywhere. It's a regular cover, with no enhancements.

The Chromium cover is a reprint from a few years back that was done. It's valuable, but, technically, it's just a reprint.

The one you want is the plain-jane cover from 1988. That's the first printing and the first appearance of Venom.

So the one I want is of more value? The plain-jane one.

The current value of Issue #300 really depends on what condition it's in. I bought ASM Issue #300 back in November or December for $45.00 and it great condition. There's just a small crease (I hope I spelled that write) on the cover of mine. Anyway, like I said, it depends on what condition it's in or if you're lucky, you can find it in great condition for a cheap price.

Yeah I mean, I got it for $50 and its in NM condition. The thing that bothered me was that, in the actual shot of the comic-cover and more specifically in the bottom left corner where a picture of Spider-Man is suppose to be: there is a another picture which says "Not for Release", that just got me thinking what if its a scam and guy is selling something printed from a computer. Still the guy has close to 1000 positive reviews.

If it says "Not for resale", then it might be a promotional comic that reprints Amazing Spider-Man #300.

It was sold exclusively through Wal-Mart as part of a DVD boxed set of "Spider-Man II."

I think it was a mini-comic size though...

So, does it still retain some of the value or has any chances of building up a value?

If it's in mini-comic format, then it's valuable by rarity only...

But if it's in comic size format, then it's been altered and has no valuable whatsoever...

:csad:

Aloha,
When it comes to finding out the value of your comics the #1 authority is Overstreet. You can buy it or download it for about $25. The latest version contains the value of variants as well as regular comics. In this particular case, if the comic says Not for resale then as TMOB stated, it's a reprint and not worth much.

But as Themanofbat said, if its in mini-size it might have worth or as my question was will it develop some value eventually even if its a Not For Resale? But I have seen people selling this thing for quiet some substantial amount.

As it stands currently, the reprinted mini-sized comic is only valuable because it was produced in a lower number of quantity... it's probably keeping it's value due to Spider-Man 3, but who knows how long it will sustain that value, because the bottom line is the fact that it is a reprint.

An original copy of ASM #300 from 1988 is your best bet for keeping a long-term valuable Spider-Man comic.

Even if its a bit worn out, and in VG condition?

Aloha,
With the exception of some original mini comics put out by Marvel many years ago, a reprint is a reprint and not worth as much as an original. Now the point to remember is one mans reprint is another man's collectors item. If you see someone selling this on ebay for big bucks, then there's a market for it. But in general, A Marvel Tales reprint of Amazing Spider-Man #1 is not worth 5% of the original Amazing #1.Invest in an Overstreet and get a much better idea of the value of your books. Then remember in todays world of comic book buying, professionally graded comics ( CGC,PGX) go for much more than the same comic without grading even if the comic is in mint condition.Wizard Magazine has a whole section on the value of graded vs non graded titles.

Obviously, you won't get top dollar, but in the long run, even a VG copy of an original ASM comic will maintain some value... moreso than a reprint.

I've personally never seen Secret Wars 8 selling higher then ASM 300

Thank you all for your valuable input, it really helped me to make a wise decision. :yay:

Thanks again all, and I'll also be on the lookout for Secret Wars.

I have the chromium cover. Bought that thing years ago. I have no idea how much it is worth (I don't look at price guides anymore...they are always wrong in my case, lol).
