Well, I would binge whats already been released, lol. I'll still watch tonight's episode and then try and watch what we have through during this week. Hope that helps me adjust, lol.
my re-read hasn't taken me this far, yet, but I'm fairly positive that everything in this episode never happened in the book at all. So, yeah, where are they even going with this show?
in watching the last minutes of this episode and seeing Sip's sister is pregnant, I wonder if they are going to go so far off the rails with this show as to have Lasher jump into HER baby instead of Rowan's? That EW article hinted that season 1 covered the first book so that would certainly speed things up. Who knows? I mean why have his sister -- who in a brand new character -- be pregnant at all?
This show kind of dipped in quality for me after the first episode, but I'm still enjoying it. However, at this point I'm definitely not expecting it to reach the same level of quality as IWAV.

We are agreed. In Interview the changes were more cosmetic in the sense they did not derail the plot by any great measure. But this? I'm a little surprised Anne Rice went along with it, but then I believe she also signed on as producer for Queen of the Damned which also varied wildly from the book.
Also, I'm struggling to understand why the producers easily split the first vampire book into two pieces but chose to cram the much larger witch book into just one season, mangling it beyond recognition. All I can think of is :
Book spoilers:
they are rushing to the point where Rowan and Lestat meet.
If so, they are ruining the witch show to do so. It wouldn't surprise me to see ratings for the witch show fall. Unless all this is being done because shows in general aren't getting long runs no matter how good they are? Makes me wonder if they are going to toss the Werewolves in for good measure. Ramses, too? Sigh....

Going by something they set up in this episode, they might do a version of Witching Hour’s ending.
Though even if they do that stuff I’m not sure it’ll be as impactful. They can pull off the horror with the big Lasher moment, and that might be really creepy and disturbing but the emotions of the denouement won’t hit as hard because…Cip sucks compared to Michael.
I am still enjoying this series but a couple things have escalated really quickly. I mean right now it feels like we’re rushing to the finish line and I wish a few things they took their time with like Rowan and Cips relationship for example.

The first book is really long, even though they’ve largely discarded the material beyond the basic premise.
Apparently Anne Rice wrote a film script for it back in the mid 90s. I’d love to get my hands on that and see what she would have cut or altered to make it feature length.

Well, I saw the finale early (it leaked) and uh…..oof.
So they kind of retained some of the book, and I’d they all but confirmed the Taltos, (“my people” as Lasher calls them) but it’s very very toothless and toned down. The horror and tragedy of Lasher “coming through” is pretty much nonexistent in the show, and that final moment with Rowan and Cip….yeah that doesn’t really hold up.
I guess season 2 is a very tame, toned down version of the novel “Lasher” with Rowan and Lasher off together. I’m really hoping the series gets new showrunners by that point though, because the heart of this story has been lost in translation.
Still, this show has made me revisit the books and appreciate them again. So there’s that at least.

Yeah, the show got to where it needed to be by the finish, but it sure was a tortuous route getting there. It's like the main components of the book were in the first episode and the last 15 minutes, lol. I do still plan to watch this through in a b8nge to see if it's less painful that way. Either way, still not the gem Interview with the Vampire was.
There’s a lot of Talamasca material in the Witching Hour novel that the show didn’t even attempt to go into. Literally hundreds of pages about the Talamasca across the last few centuries that a potential show could draw from. So if they utilise that stuff I might be very interested in see where they go with this project.
