Comedy Another Scary Movie in the works | Wayans Bros return!!!!

Omg Brenda needs to do the monologue from Hereditary.

All is right in the universe. Regardless of the film's quality, having the Wayans involved, as well as now Regina Hall and Anna Faris makes this the most excited that I've been for a Scary Movie since......well, awhile.

Even though Scary Movie 3 and 4 didn't have the Wayans, there are a handful of funny moments in those films. And I haven't even seen 5.

Realistically it makes sense that they would reference the new IKWYDLS and also Scream (5) since the originals were the two main movies the first one spoofed.

Definitely legacy sequel coded. I wonder if they will introduce a younger cast that try to replace the mains.

I'm all for it if they can keep the tone of the spoof genre and they don't make it a parade of references like that Date/Epic Movie crap.

With the Wayans involved, I'm beyond certain there won't be any of that.

Say what you will about some of the random references in Scary Movie 1 and 2, but things like the 'Wassup' moment were brief, and the movie moved on. And unlike Selzer and Friedberg, the Wayans kept the main parodies strictly to comedies, whereas Selzer and Friedberg, as you said, made it a parade of references. To the point that their trailers would include parodies of movies that hadn't even come out yet! I'm looking at you, Disaster Movie trailer including a reference to Hancock, which hadn't been released in theaters yet.

I hope it's good. I feel more excited getting another spoof movie more than the Wayans returning. Scary Movie 3 was always my favorite of the bunch and that was without the Wayans. That's not to throw any shade on them though, I think the first Scary Movie was funny but the 2nd one never really did much for me personally, aside from the opening Exorcist bit and James Woods priceless reaction to the head turn.

So if it's more like the first Scary Movie rather than the 2nd I think I will have a great time.

Someone on Twitter suggested Anna Faris doing a spoof of 'Pearl' in this movie and I CANNOT UNSEE IT.

From what I remember about Scary Movie 1-4 was that they each used one or two existing horror movies as the base for the plot. The first one was Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scary Movie 2 was The Haunting, Scary Movie 3 was The Ring and Signs, Scary Movie 4 was The Grudge and The Village. I'm sure they'll be doing the same structure for this with other references peppered in while still adhering to the main story unlike the Seltzer and Freidberg movies where they just threw random references out there.

I think that the recent Scream and IKWYDLS reboots will play a main role in the story here, with Cindy and Brenda (and I'm assuming Shorty and whatever Shawn Wayans' character's name was) as the veterans with younger stars as "the next generation". It'd be funny if they went real meta with it and got some of the real cast from the reboots involved like Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Madelyn Cline, etc.

Actually Scary Movie 4 was mainly Spielberg's War of the Worlds. Which is, for my liking, a little bit over blockbuster territory than horror. But still, they found some great bits to do with it.

How dare you. Ray was the STAR of those movies! :D

I vaguely remember War of the Worlds references in it (and Saw) but it's also been nearly 20 years since I saw it so my memory is a little fuzzy.

I rewatched it recently. It's pretty much a scene for scene remake of War of the Worlds. With the Grudge being the second big spoof.

The Wayans and Rick Alvarez are writing and producing the sixth entry.

Wayans previously listed I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scream, Heretic, Longlegs, Get Out, Nope, and Sinners as horror movies ripe for parody. But he also shares a little bit with EW about how he's now going to poke fun at these premises in the age of elevated horror, of which Himis a great example.

"I think you have to acknowledge how comedy has changed. Not just horror has changed, but films have changed, the audience has changed, the world has shifted," he explains. "I think the way to do that is to make the generational gap part of the conversation. That's how we constructed the movie so we could talk about it all. It's a conversation with these funny characters, and they just so happen to be going through this. The more pressure you put on characters and the more horrific the situations, that's when you really get to know the characters."

Scary Movie alums Regina Hall and Anna Faris are coming back to play Brenda and Cindy alongside Wayans as Shorty. "We have plans to bring a few more back," Wayans teases, but he declines to say more because "no deal's been done."

He does, however, promise a Scary Movie 6 that will be "no holds barred and equal opportunity offenders."

"It's how we always do it," he says. "We just want to make everybody laugh, and we don't care if you're sensitive. Even sensitive people need to laugh at themselves."

"Just know that we're not just laughing at you, you get the chance to laugh at others," he continues. "When we did White Chicks, we made fun of everybody. We made fun of Black people, we made fun of white people, we made fun of Hispanic people. That's just what we do. We make fun of the world, make light of the world. It's not to harm, it's to bring humor. You may offend people here and there, but, hey, not every joke's gonna land 100 percent, but if you tell a joke and 100 people laugh and one person walks out, that's still a good joke."

If 100 people walk out and only one person is laughing, "That's a bad joke," he adds. "That's not to say that there's not something in that joke 'cause this guy's laughing now. We want to make the majority of people laugh and have a good time. I think this film that we're working on is gonna be a great conversation piece, that we can all sit down and laugh together, over three generations of people who haven't had great comedy in a long time."

I thought Scary Movie 3 was okay (4 less so) but Marlon was definitely missed in those two so I'm happy he's back.

I thought the Wayans were involved in some Scary Movie spinoff at one point but mixed it up with A Haunted House which was a spoof of those found footage Paranormal Activity movies.

How did that turn out? Probably not well, but they made two of them now that I just googled it lol
