Living on the coast I've always been in or around the water. Took up bodyboarding a few years ago which eventually progressed to surfing. Any more surfers here?
Not sure I'd be so keen on taking to the water in S.A - I'd be listening to the Jaws theme over and over in my head. Paddeling out alone would completly freak me lol.
The waters are ok, as long as you know where to go ( i.e Jeffery's Bay , where they hold one of the biggest surfing compitions in the world), most shark attacks happen in Umshangla /balito which is where I live, but I havnt heard of many shark attacks in the past couple of years.
Im in the UK - so I'm not used to sharks and that. Although I'd be willing to bet our waters are a hell of alot colder lol. One of the reasons I've been trying out indoor surfing this month. Ever try that?
Where are you Tzarinna? I think I'd be more willing to surf in a group out in S.A or AUS. It'd still be in the back of my mind but not so much as if I'd go solo.
I hadn't heard of that cruise liner before, but reading it it sounds similar to the indoor surfer I've been practising on the last month, its pretty cool - gives you a guarenteeed wave whenever you want it.
You shouldnt worry too much about Sharks, its not like you're in S.A or California. I found it pretty hard to get non surfers out at first too, just keep at someone, they'll eventually crack
Oookay, so Chuck has been banned?
Anyway, I joined an adventure group that will be going to Nags Head in July. Surfing lessons among a butt load of stuff will be offered. Surfing Lessons - $60-$80 (1 ½-2 hours) I may do this. t:
