This may sound silly to many, but it is something that has been bothering me for the past few years. I literally get depressed upon realizing how fast time passes and years go by. It becomes worse when I associate some dates with movies that came out in the past, or those that will came out in the near future. I mean, it seems like yesterday when I was looking forward to the TDK and now here we are in 2013 talking about 2015 Batman vs Superman.
I almost feel like I didn't live at all after the 00's, because of them passing very fast. The 90's I remember very vivid and clear.

The older you get, the faster they go.

Enjoy the time you have, or build a time machine.

Not me. Too long if you ask me. I can see being depressed if life is a gift to you. But, myself I find it very boring and not much of anything to do, especially when you are poor and have to spend almost every moment of your life working.

Life is like the speedometer on a car. When you're 10 it goes 10mph. Summers go on forever. When you're 40 it goes 40 mph. Age 80, 80 mph. Our perspective on the passage of time constantly changes as we get older.

Probably adding to this is the fact we are living in a post-2000 world, which was always percieved as the far-off future in 20th century science-fiction. And instead of getting flying cars, completely immersive virtual sex and rockets that go to Mars, we have extremely addictive computers we can fit in our pocket, intrusive social networking, a crumbling global economy, less free societies and a warming planet. Welcome to the future!

Certain events from my life feel like they might as well have happened to someone else, since its been so long ago. I dont really even feel that connected to those memories any more. Plus, I know I'm not getting any younger, that's the thing I've been dealing with.

Still, I'm still relatively young and in good health and hopefully have many years ahead of me. I'm sure that if my older self were here, he'd laugh at all of this and say "Just wait."

Wow I am suprised you feel that way. I mean I can relate to you in a way, I myself have an average income and spend most of my hours in work. But, still I feel I need much to do and have many interests.

Now I am more depressed:csad:
Seriously though there is something with the 00's like you mentioned. Everything happens so fast especially with the advent of the internet. We learn so much about movies, music, world news that we don't take time to absorb all that information and that might explain the feeling that time passes faster.

I don't get depressed about it at all.....because if time doesn't pass along....you have passed along.

That's exactly how I feel about my younger self. Like it was another person living my life. Weird stuff!

Actually I don't have much problem with the hours, days, weeks and months. They seem to go by pretty normal. It's with the years that I get WTF?

The older you get, the faster it (appears to) go by (this has been scientifically proven, don't have a link, but it's out there).....it's something that can be disconcerting at first, but you tend to start accepting it.

It's not depressing but it is a change for anyone born before 1995 that things have changed immensely in their lives. Anyone born afterwards is less likely to notice just how much the world has changed, and aren't tied to the past century.

I imagine it must be the same at every turn of the century or even mid century when there is a huge advancement in technology and the past 10+ years seem to have gone by or been so different.

It's not all doom and gloom though. Think of it this way: It's feasible most of us born before 1999 might live to see 2099 and beyond given the advancements in technology and medicine.

Practice Buddhist meditation and awareness exercises.

You'll learn to appreciate every moment.

Fast every once in a while too.

Interesting points . Of course the medicine will advance in our lifetime to enable us to live longer but I am afraid that will be solely a privilege for the few and wealthy that consist the elite.

Are you into any meditation thing? Must be very beneficial although I never bothered with it, but now I regret for doing so.

The War on Terror has been going on for half of the lives of people in their 20's. That blows my mind. I vaguely remember the Cold War, which I'm sure is ancient history to those 20 year olds. Then again, the Vietnam War always seemed so long ago to me, but it ended only 6 years before I was born. Compare that to 9-11 and the start of the Iraq War: both very fresh in my mind, but happened over a decade ago.

I don't practice meditation (my wife does) but I do enjoy reading Zen parables.

Not until now.:waa:

I feel like I'm wasting my youth stuck in a minimum wage part-time job, not in college, not in a relationship, etc., and I can't seem to get out of it.

Also, the idea of death terrifies me.

I haven't been in a relationship since 2008.

All I've had in between are two horrible aborted misfires with people I shouldn't have tried anything with in the first place, that lasted a few days each and I ended up regretting ever happened.
