'APOCALYTO' 'Review thread.

or I'll see Blood Diamond. Not sure yet

I saw it this afternoon. It's a good movie. Mel Gibson continues his wonderful directing streak:

The Man Without A Face > Braveheart > The Passion of the Christ > Apocalypto

Basically the movie is a metaphor for Mel Gibson's life and career. Believe it or not!

WHAT DO I SEE BLOOD DIAMOND OR THIS... NEED HELP!!!!!!!! this one looks original and new... Blood Diamond looks like some cliche treasure hunting goosechase... HELP ME MAKE A DECISION!!!

I just saw the film. I couldnt wait to see this movie so I went to the first showing this afternoon.

Well....it was graphically intense, but aside from that the film does reveal something common about Man and the human race.

I think the most interesting part of the ending was when Jaguar Paw turns to his wife and says "We follow the jungle....come." And as he walks off with son in hand........She hesitates and takes a second glance of curiosity at those ships.

heh.... The man said come, we go this way.........and the woman still didnt quite get it after all that they had just been through.

Everyone will have thier own interpretation of this film tho.

There were alot of moments that can pull you in, in comparison to the human race and how we have evolved.

I didnt care for the scenes that involved the little children, that didnt need to be put in the film that way! It was pretty hard core.....and should have been edited out of the film.

Thank you for spoiling the movie. :whatever:

Gibson delivers another masterpiece.

As he did with Jesus and Wallace, he does a fine job of depicting people from a completely different era with completely different lifestyles as real and relateable. We get to see the Mayans have family quarrells and joke around with each other, and their interaction makes them likeable before things really take a turn for the worse.

Everything from the siege until the escape does a fantastic job of showing the type of barbaric brutality and greed that ultimately causes a groups downfall, supported beautifully by a quote before the film and a monlogue earlier on. Much like with Braveheart, Gibson sets things up that may not seem crucial initially, but pay off bigtime later on.

The escape until the end of the film shows Gibson brilliantly accomplish something he's never attempted before, building tension and suspense and completely putting me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire third act, and eventually moving me to tears at the culmination of the courage and determination during the finale.

As with Passion, the authenticity of the style completely draws me into the period, and the film is visually stunning with a unique, ethnic score. Gibson shoots the film almost like it's a documentary of the event and really put me there with the main character.

This rivals The Descent for the best film of the year.

Christ, your hard on for Gibson is kind of creepy:dry:

I just read a review in my local paper that the movie was just a blood fest... but I think there is a lot more to it than that... I'll see this eventually... all I can say though to people who have a problem with movies like Passion and Apocolypto... if you don't do violence then don't watch a Gibson film... I'll prolly check it out tomm...

I just got back from watching the movie. Its very good. Not as good as Braveheart and Passion but still very good.

Great film.
One of the best of 2006.

I am glad that that one ******* got beat in the face, twice, near the end of the movie.

9/10

After you see The Passion, nothing is gory anymore. :o

Does Mel know how to make a film in English?

You do know that movies are fake and that the children weren't hurt?
Besides all those people in the film were really from the jungle. Hense the head boarding and the bizzare piercings. Those kids are probably tougher than you by now.

Learn to use spoilers,please,halfapple.

Gory?
Maybe,reviews are good so far.

Just saw it. Entertaining, well acted. Good stuff.

Just saw it yesterday myself...despite all the *****ing people are doing against Gibson, nobody can say this movie didn't rock! Completely awesome and original!

The irony is that the same horrors that the invading tribe inflicted upon Jaguar and his people, in the name of their religion, is about to happen to them by the invading europeans....
