Bay is quoted as saying that he ended up not liking the character of Arcee as she was developed, so he decided to kill her off. Unlike Jazz's death in the first movie, Bay says that Arcee's death will occur and the movie will quickly move on from there. He also confirms that Mikaela does not ride Arcee, as previously rumored

Bay did say he was going to start this misinformation campaign before he started filming.

And he did initially lie about Megatron....

She should only die if they can make people feel pity. That means developing the character and gaining people's interest. Otherwise, the death will fall flat. I would like, though, if we could actually keep one of the few female transformers for some of the movie at least, if not the whole.
