I've heard it said that when you are having an argument , it has taken a turn for the worse when someone uses Hitler as a reference?

Is it true?

I've never heard that, but I'd say its true. If you listen to people these days, everyone is the next Hitler. Its embarrassing. Those people clearly dont know what they're talking about.

This thread is Hitler. :o

Godwin's Law

Basically, anything will eventually be compared to Hitler and the Nazis by someone who disagrees. Anything. I've even experienced it myself, on this very forum. And as internet phenomena become more common, it's beginning to escape into the real world.

Hitler's become a caricature in today's society.

Hitler became a caricature when he was alive. Honestly, him being the world's first real life cartoon supervillains is one of the two things I find remotely likeable about the man (the other is how he showed that no matter what, people will follow a charismatic leader).

I need to go shower with HCl now that I've listed two positives about Adolf Hitler.

 how about starting listing posotives about the BNP's too (not that I'm comparing them, but I could).

According to one of the Mod's here, I'm worse than Hitler and babykillers.

I got tired of Hitler being the go-to villain to compare people to, so I just call people I don't like Mumm-Ra. Bush was definitely Mumm-Ra. *runs away from the political thread this will become*

Yep saw the Godwin's Law thing on The BBC show QI

Modern Generations have become so divorced from Hitler and the Nazis that they use analogies of them so much to the point of pointlessness. I've seen people actually defend Hitler and the Nazis as well which is rather disturbing.

We, the mods, get called Hitler or a Nazi all the time......which is either pretty funny or pathetic when you think about it. I usually tell the ones who call me that, that they apparently have no idea what they are talking about if they think having a post deleted or being told not to curse on a comic book site is comparable to the murder and torture of millions of people.

Throwing around Hitler like that is kind of insulting to the entire Holocaust thing to be honest.

During WWII, American and British propaganda started portraying Hitler and the Nazis as these ridiculous Boris and Natasha type cartoon villains for morale purposes, but it had the unfortunate side effect of actually seeping into public consciousness this image of Hitler as this silly little cartoon supervillain and making people not take him, or by extension what his regime did, seriously.

This.

People call members of the other political party Nazis. People call people who are against smoking Nazis. People compared George W. Bush to Hitler. People compare Obama to Hitler. People compare their boss to Hitler. People called our high school assistant principal a Nazi because he gave us assigned seats in lunch (granted, the guy was a little control freaky).

I can't really imagine a Holocaust survivor not being offended by how casually the words are tossed around.

I feel like if I don't get compared to Hitler at least twice in my life then I haven't lived to the fullest. Here's to hoping.
