Army of Loungeness - Part 146

Well, I never had anyone say to my face that I was such a loser that I should kill myself, but my daughter has had online folks do that. :( Depends on how sensitive you are I guess.

Block or ignore isn't a choice or this by ppl she knows?

I know online bullying is an issue for this new generation, but anyone else (I'm talking about 90s kids my generation) would have prefer online bullying over real physical ones? I was only 12 yrs old when I had issues with another 15yr old bully. And we didn't deal with it over comments or anything like that. lol

Physical bullying is the worst, because really, if adults did it, it would be assault or some other kind of major crime. The fact that physical bullying has been excused, or in some cases even encouraged and commended, for so many decades is a blight on Western culture.

However, cyberbullying is a game-changer that we never had to deal with as kids. Yes, it sucks when people verbally harass you or try to socially isolate you. Back in the old days, we'd brush it off, go home, read our books, watch Transformers, listen to Full Force, and we'd forget about it after an hour.

But cyberbullying is 24/7. It lets bad kids harass you in volume, numbers and frequency that would have been impossible to imagine a generation ago. And furthermore, it begets physical violence. Bullies can plan and collaborate online now. Home addresses can be published. So can pictures and videos. It's insane.

I see what you mean, but for me growing up in some hood type of place, I would have given anything for these cyber punks to come at me instead of some older brothas coming at me over a pair of jordans. I do feel bad for kids going through this tho.

it's even worse these days with cyber-shaming. i don't know if that's an actual term but it should be. how many pictures of people in bad clothes, social faux paus, less attractive have you seen become memes or something only to be reblogged 1000's upon 1000's of times. i'm not a fan of those at all

Unfortunately, it's not an either/or situation. These days it's often both.

Some she could ignore, others were school mates. She's out of school now, but it was hard back then. Kids seem to be much crueler now. :(

I was mainly talking about anonymous trolls/ppl you don't know personally. People that you do know from school etc, I think that becomes a whole other thing. You can actually do something about it, which you did. Good for you.

Wait, Death Matches are properly ending? Or just this one?

Just this one. I'm sure they'll be another series of them next year or so.

That's ok then. For a second there I though all hell had broken loose and that death was the sole winner...

LOL. So, how's stuff with you on your side of the pond?

I find it easier, because cyber bullies can be reported, ignored, or mocked harshly.
Hackers are a bigger issue.

So, what did I miss?
Hey, Valumart, nice to have you back.
You didn't miss much.

Hey everyone!

Unfortunately, it's not an either/or situation. These days it's often both.

I experienced both, which sucked. I couldn't ignore or block like online only, and I couldn't escape it like when it was in person.

Beg to differ, was worst back in the 70's and 80's, I have seen teachers physically assaults kids and got away with it and the entire football team didn't get in trouble when the quarterback and his teammates gang up on another student and beat on him. I even know a student that the teacher were afraid of, dude now has a long list of crimes he been busted since he was a kid

Some of the old teachers scare me, I had one teacher that left a bad memory with me.
That teacher scaring student needed better friends, good teachers kind of friends.

I never had anything that bad, but I was in a small town. I can see how a big city school could be awful. :(

It really sucks when my ride home from work doesn't show up. Usually I'd be home about 45 mins ago. Instead I'm sitting at the bus stop with another hour ride ahead of me. No bueno
