Ya know, I think if this were a one-time incident, it would end up being exploited into some kind of great legacy for them and turn into big business, [blackout]but considering their previous prima ballerina just went through a similar downward spiral, I'd say it's mostly just bad news all around for the company.[/blackout]

Bah, double the tragedy, double the money-making legacy, is what I say.

Very, very good film. I never liked Portman as an actress for reasons I'm not aware of, however here she is fantastic. Supporting actors and actresses were also great.

All throughout the film I was constantly reminded of how similar it was to The Wrestler; with camera shots mainly focused on Nina going about her life. The mixture of the psychological/horror element was the only real departure from The Wrestler in terms of an overall structure, but it really added a nice touch to the story.

The ending; well for now I'm a bit ambivalent towards it, but I suppose it was an appropriate way to finish it. I usually see a movie once at a theater, so I'll wait untill the DVD release for subsequent viewings. Given the fact that I had no expectations going in, this was an impressive film; bravo Aronofsky.

Superb film, I saw this and True Grit today, and was happy with both.

I always liked Portman I never understood why some did not like her, yea Star Wars but I think I know who's to blame there. But she was wonderful in this and I hope wins some awards.

this movie is 10/10. end of story.

Aronofsky is amazing.

That's not much I could added that hasn't been already said. This movie it’s like the peak of perfection not only when it comes to a Aronofsky movie but also putting the art in filmmaking, yes that’s how much I love the movie, it's just top notch in every aspects. It grips you from the first scene and you just immerse yourself into the development of Nina, Portman was nothing short of extraordinary, it’s a beautiful and so powerful movie, definitely among the best movie of this year and Aronofsky truly surpass from his previous great movies and with this work, his at the top of his game.

I never get the Portman hate either. She's been bad in a few things (Star Wars, that movie where she pops out a baby in Wal-Mart) but she's also been very good in other roles.

Some people really despise her though. It's a little bizarre. My ex thinks she's the worst actress on earth or something. But then, she was a failed actress who thought that she was better than 99% of the talent in Hollywood, so you know how it goes.

Did any actor really look good in the Star Wars prequels?

I thought it was utterly incredible. Then again, it's hard to expect anything less from Aronofsky. The camerawork was especially superb, the over the shoulder stuff almost gave it a documentary feel, which makes it all the more creepy.

The film was shot on a 16 mm film and the way the camera is positioned is just like "The Wrestler".

No.

When you can even make the great Christopher Lee suck by hampering him with horrid dialogue, a stupid name (Count Dooku?!!) and a lightstaber that looks like it needs a viagra injection, your movie is a fail of epic proportions.

aha so the hate is now so huge that we now complain even about the lightsabers? :)

When Samuel L. Jackson only has one moment of badassery over the course of three films, you're definitely not an actor's director.

But back on topic: Black Swan won't leave my mind. I must find the time to see it again.

I could probably write a 500 page novel detailing the things i hated about those movies. But yeah, Count Doodoo's lightsaber stuck out to me. It was just because it was designed to be different, which I initially thought was cool but the more I looked at it, I kept thinking it looked like it was having some dysfunction in its old age.

And given that Chris Lee was the oldest guy to ever play a Jedi, well, you have to wonder if George Lucas is just twisted enough that he did this on purpose as a joke.

Hey, he tried to put the members of NSync in one of those movies. He's one sick puppy.

I will say Liam Neeson was able to get through his one Star Wars prequel looking good. But Liam Neeson is just awesome.

Yeah, somehow he made it all the way to the end of that movie without looking too bad. Still, he is the one who brings up "midichlorians."

i dare you all to find anyone who doesnt like Black Swan.

this movie is way to good to be true.

This movie was a marvel. Perfect in every way.

I literally cannot decide which film of DA's I love the most. The Fountain, The Wrestler, and Black Swan all have themes that hit me hard and I've connected with deeply, with the Fountain touching on love and loss and death while spanning an epic sci fi story, Black Swan touching on art and sacrafice and inadequacies while delivering a horrifying tale of paranoia, and The Wrestler touching on all of my greatest fears and really depressing the **** out of me.

I can't help but wonder what kind of 3 hour genre bending epic the film would have been if he kept The Wrestler and Black Swan as one film.

Whoa whoa. I didn't know Sebastian Stan was in this until looking it up on Wikipedia after I saw it. Which one was Bucky? I've never seen him before.

Im pumped Im seeing this on Wed. I've wanted to see this since I first heard about it, but I have a serious question. How awesome is this sex scene I keep hearing about?? :awesome:
It's the most graphic lesbian scene for an R rated movie. More than the one in Gia. It runs for about two minutes. There's a bit of CGI on Mila's back.

If you have a Kunis and/or Portman crush then your mind will asplode.

Fun Fact: Liam Neeson makes any film 15% more awesome.

I really want to see this but it isn't in at my local. Not yet at least. They had a poster up for a few weeks back, so fingers crossed.

Minimum. :cwink:

In was one of the Tom and Jerry dudes at the club. The one Nina was talking to.

a lot of good things can be said about the execution of this film. it was very well made and a welcome throwback to early argento and cronenberg films. and it was undoubtedly a clever translation of swan lake itself. but i was pretty underwhelmed by it all. the whole movie was portman crying and seeing weird things. it quickly lost its impact for me, and in the end didnt amount to much.

Yeah, Sebastian Stan was Andrew (who Lily called "Jerry") at the club. He was barely in it.
