Muschietti will direct a feature film adaptation of “Attack on Titans” for Warner Bros. The studio finalized a deal with Japan-based publishing company Kodansha on Monday. “Attack on Titan,” written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama, has become one of the best-selling manga series with over 76 million copies in print since debuting in 2009. It is set in a world in which humanity lives in cities surrounded by enormous walls protecting themselves from gigantic humanoids that are referred to as titans.

I'm not that well versed in Attack on Titan but Muschietti directing that material is just:hmr::hmr::hmr:.

I suspect the attacks will all be at night, otherwise the CGI would be horrendous.
Or maybe I underestimate what they can do but I still have not seen completely convincing CGI "human" giants.

the giants are supposed to look weird, otherwise they can just pull a Gulliver's Travels and call it a day.

They'll mocap them all, probably use repeat models for the smaller fast ones, and more detailed ones for Colossal, Female, etc.

I feel like this is one movie Dane Dehaan would defintely fit in, most of the ****ing dudes look like him in the anime.

I love the manga and the anime. Please don't F this up...again. I do like Muschietti though. It'll be interesting to see how much of the first arc in the series will be adapted in a 2 hour plus film.

They’ll definitely have to cut out a lot.

WB must be very happy to with the way IT Part II is shaping up. That's a good sign for the quality of the sequel.

BTDubz, I read elsewhere from a reliable source that he was also offered to direct a DC movie so WB are really impressed with Muschietti and they definitely want to keep him in the house.

I would be shocked if they actually got this to work and have it not look like trash. I love the anime and manga, and have zero desire to see a live action of this.

They'd have to tease a sequel. I could see them going until the
Female Titan arc
then ending it there.

Plus, this is gory. Would they put a hefty CGI price tag on it and then limit it with an R rating? They'd probably try to go for PG-13.

This is a mess. Do not want.

It's not just that it's gory, Attack on Titan is very bleak. It's borderline despair porn at times.

They'll make sure they have a few comic relief characters. Every apocalyptic movie finds a way to get one in there. Levi is probably the most deadpan snarky character. Considering how well IT did with an R rating and how many parents actually took their kids, they may give the director the freedom.

Honestly AOT is a better fit for Hollywood than many other manga/anime. It's got an obviously European-inspired aesthetics/names, they have more money/effects technology to make the Titans look good, and Mikasa being the only Asian left around is actually a plot point. So as long as they don't screw up casting ONE Japanese woman, that's fine as well.

Conny and Sasha fit the bill.

The camaraderie among the group is one of the many aspects I hope they capture.

Man I really hope they do this show justice. I just recently started watching it after hearing so many good things and I got to say it definitely lives up to the hype. Unfortunately, I saw those live action Japanese movies before I started watching the anime and they weren't very good at all.

Jean and Hange to a lesser extent are good comic relief too. But I can't see them actually getting the ODM scenes to not look goofy in real life. I'm having a hard time picturing it.

Shadis' s---machine is definitely a no go.

I still predict this never sees the light of day.

Attack on Titan is also a bad choice for a movie because of its large unwieldy plot and cast of characters. Boiling it down to just two hours is going to be hard. Death Note wasn't able to pull it off.

Catching up with the show recently and I see potential in an interesting trilogy, or more, but it’ll be tough to do but it’s there. If this gets made I also wonder how much interest this will have in America? Enough to warrant a sequel? We’ll see.

It's pretty popular and the concept is pretty high level. It'd have to be a hard R though.
