Avengers Doomsday General News and Discussion Thread

I still believe there's a (admittedly small) chance of Tom Cruise's Iron Man variant in Secret Wars being their wild card "holy s***" moment. I don't think he will carry on, but as a one-off appearance.
I’m sure they have made all kinds of offers to absolutely everyone to make an appearance in Secret Wars and I’m sure they’d take Cruise if they could get him. This is exactly the kind of thing the GA seem to go crazy for, even if many geeks are left shaking their head. :funny:

My whole thing about Chris Evans' Cap, is that he had his happy ending with Peggy and lived a full life with her. Then she died and now he's an old man. We're not sure where he's at or what he's doing. So to me, if they were to bring his 616 version back with let's say...Smart Hulk's time machine that can de-age someone, I honestly wouldn't have a problem with that. I don't think it ruins his happy ending because he's already filled that gap in his life.

I know some people will feel different about that. If they go the route of a variant, I'm fine with that too.
Absolutely fine with me. That’s enough of an explanation to get Evans back thank you very much. :cwink:

He loves movies so much and he is always supportive of big blockbusters, that I have no doubt that with the right offer (money/script/screen time) he's absolutely in.

Yea I like this idea as well. I can't remember who it was (might have been one of you 2 lol) but I think someone came up with a similar idea a few months back.
It might've been lol. If they're going to bring back Cap, I'd much rather it be the one we got to know.

That would be one hell of a trailer moment, seeing Tom Cruise and RDJ squaring off. The Internet would blow their minds.

Having Cruise and RDJ as 2 Straks facing off would be amazing to see and I think the GA would blow their mind a lot more if RDJ is playing Iron Men as well as Doom.

Apparently there's a rumor floating around that RDJ is playing a version of Doom, but not the main Doom.

Viggo Mortensen is rumored to be playing the main Doom and the entire RDJ as Doom is a misdirect. He'll eventually suit up as Iron Man once more for Secret Wars.

Obviously I'm not sure how true this is. I know Viggo was once rumored for Doom years ago.

I'm still very much doubtful of this, but I don't think I quite made the Iron Lad connection until now. If they go that route, it could be a bit of a reference to that (obviously, not Iron Lad in the sense that it's not a young Doom, though).

I feel like he had two options. Option one was to basically admit responsibility and take serious actions to repent. Give time for things to cool down and then see what happened. Option two was essentially to gamble everything on a not guilty verdict. He was found not guilty on some charges, but certainly not all of them, so the categorical denials did him no favors. That being said, RDJ's issues were drug-related, which is also quite different.

I do think Majors was great in the role, which they expanded because he was so good in Loki. I think, technically, he would be recast with someone else and isn't recast with Downey.

I'd actually be cool if Cruise were to take on the main Iron Man variant role in Secret Wars while RDJ just sticks to playing Doom. Seems like a good way to avoid undermining Downey's Stark's ending in Endgame while getting an answer to one of the biggest what-if castings out there.

The Tom Cruise pic looks good. Is that using a younger version of Cruise? Not sure what he’d look like now as Stark.

Yeah.
I suspect the manip itself is probably old , but yeah, Cruise ain't gonna look that young as Stark now.
That's closer to how he would have looked in the early 00s .

Maybe they could finally have Matt Damon as the actual Loki.

I wonder if there's any chance they still use Kang in another film despite no longer being being the villain in A5 and Secret Wars. Maybe Shang-Chi 2? The rumored subtitle is Wreckage of Time and the rings were supposedly going to be connected to Kang at one point.

I'm doubtful Kang will be mentioned again other than a potential reference to RDJ Doom killing all his variants off-screen.

I hope the Kang storyline is done. I never liked the actor anyway (even pre-allegations), so the idea of MULTIPLE Jonathan Majors' was a big letdown.
Even though I'm not completely sold yet on the RDJ/Doom thing, it's still a relief for me that the Kang thing is over.

Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes did two things better than the MCU. Carol Danvers, and Kang.

As far as Kang goes, what if they pulled a Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King theatrical cut and had the heroes find the dead remains of the Kang variants.

I'm 99% certain they'll do something along those lines. There's no need for them to go the variant route when 616 Cap is enjoying retirement in another universe.

By that logic, old Cap we met in Endgame has already lived whatever happens in Secret Wars. Correct?

Wait why would that Steve Rogers have already experienced Secret Wars?

I don't like "fan" theories in general. Almost always they sound off.
But around the 30-minute mark in this video he has a very interesting theory about where things might go regarding RDJ/Doom.

Even if things don't work out exactly as he says, the idea of a standalone movie re-telling something as a proper alternate reality story is quite unique (and it could potentially explain why Fantastic Four is set in another universe). It might even give the Multiverse saga that hook it has been missing.
I don't know. Is interesting enough that I thought to share, maybe someone will find it intriguing too.
