Just proves how the mantra 'the best person for the job' doesn't ring true. When it's do with who you know as opposed to what you know. As long as the gatekeepers keep perpetuating the 'jobs for the boys' mentality and let the undeserving few do their little schlock pet projects then nothing will change.

Apparently, this movie was ultra-low budget (under $10K?) and entirely self-financed. So it’s not as if a major studio chose this project over, say, a Jane Eyre remake.

Well kudos for that, but then why spend money on that s**t then ? Do something original, thoughtful, personal, rather than a bland pastiche of something that doesn't need subverting, that's what Deep Blue Sea is there for.

I know what effort it takes to self finance a film, and when I did it, I wanted something made from deep in my heart, soul and very being, that's what you are investing for, not some throw away fodder like the trailer gives us.

This might be funny but it probably won't be very good.
