Batman the Animated Series Volume 4

Is Volume 4 up to the caliber of Volumes 1-3?

  • Yes! Buy it, all Batman TAS volumes are created equal

  • Eh. It's pretty good. I'd buy it.

  • Eh. It's alright, but you don't need it.

  • No. It's not the same. Don't buy it.

i appreciate Tim Drake & the Scarecrow.... I thought mr. Freeze was done good in design (BUT THE WHOLE SPIDERHEAD THING WAS RIDICULOUS), but overall the revamps were horrible....

a few good episodes I guess

i hate the way joker looked in this season, just didn't match what i was hearing from hamil

The Joker's look seemed to change very noticably over the span of the series ,JLU included. His look never really stayed the same much.

As long as Hamill was voicing him, it's tolerable.

Hey everybody. I am making a Batman Fan Film using episodes from Batman: The Animated Series and the animated films. I would like to know what episodes/villains you'd like to see. So far I have an idea of using Batman's origin, the birth of Two Face, and the whole mob scenario with Rupert Thorne for the first film. Any ideas or interest in this?

Right but I would be adding Elfman's soundtrack for BR and B89 and part of the Batman Begins soundtrack. Meshing bits of the series, and MOTP into a feature length film. I am an experience editor with film and visual, and it would fit into a storyline. I am not just going to do 4 episodes back to back per say and call it a film. Scenes will be mended into a storyline.

Eh. I loved it, don't get me wrong. But I loved it more because it was TAS. Not because it was as incredible as as 1-3. I had to watch all the episodes with the old TAS beginning to keep myself in the mood. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get through all of them. :batman:

I love Vol 4. Don't get me wrong, it is different, but it's great in its own right.

It's not as old school and noir as the original run, it's a much crisper and "modern" style animation. I actually prefer most of the redesigns, but I definitely prefer the original run's darker, more Fleischer-esque animation and adult tone. That's not to say that it doesn't have its fair share of classy, dark, and mature themes, like Old Wounds, Growing Pains, Over the Edge. Plus some pure fun like Holiday Knights and Beware the Creeper.

Also, it really shows the progression of Timm & Co into the more expanded DC Universe, of course with the crossovers w/Superman, the appearance of Etrigan, etc. You can tell that it's slowly headed towards Justice League, which for me, isn't necessarily the best thing, for me at least.

I love Justice League, but it's just never really been my thing. I'm not one for the epic, cosmic stories. I much prefer the isolated, more grounded, more personal Batman world.

A few of my favorites from this volume have to be the NEVER FEAR, LOVE IS A CROC & THE DEMON WITHIN episodes.

I love how Timm impliments humor through the characters with the facial expressions. Some of them are just hilarious. It's my favorite out of all the volumes to me seeing that I view this one considerably more than the others...

i love the 'growing pains' episode, where robin fallsfor/protects a homeless girl his age, and then at the end realises she's a chunk of Clayface which accidentally split and has a seperate consciousness... Really great original episode.

My son loves that one too.

BUY IT.

IMO, its an excellent collection of episodes.
My faves are: OVER THE EDGE, MAD LOVE, GIRLS NIGHT OUT, Calendar Girl, and one with the Judge.
Really, the only two episodes I dislike are the Farmer Brown and Croc/Babydoll stories.

I too hated the Farmer Brown episode alot. It was like The Beverly Hillbillies Meets King Kong. :csad:

Love Is A Croc, however, IS hilarious! Croc's voice and facial expressions, the drunk hotel customer, etc. I seem to get a laugh out of this one alot. Not sure why... :hehe:

i love the father brown episode for some reason... its so much like a 60s Bat-villain, and the designs in the episode are nutty. its just a fun episode thats a bit tongue in cheek.

okay, love is a strong word... i 'like' that episode

I love how Timm & Co completely cop to Critters being a fan-loathed episode, though they make no excuses for loving it themselves.

It has sort of grown on me, actually. But it's definitely one of the weaker episodes.

I think is a natural progression of Mr. Freeze. The last phase of his transformation was to start dying. And whe a cure was found, the only thing left of him was his head.

How would anyone would feel if he can´t feel any warm and then he can´t move at all?

Mr. Freeze is a tragic character and I love everyone of his episodes. (And Subzero)

the batman beyond episode which caps off his saga is quite good too (the one where he's thawed out in the future, and they have a cure).

I'd say buy it. Not just for nostalgic reasons, but for the character.

Yeah, it's a bit lighter, but still it's the same Batman from TAS. And I wouldn't say that having Robin and Batgirl were that bad. In some cases I enjoyed watching their episodes. The Nightwing one where Dick retells what happens is one of the top episodes.

But The Legends of the Dark Knight episode alone is worth buying it. Just so you can watch it over and over.:woot: When I first saw that episode it completely caught me off guard. I was thinking , "wow, this is an awesome but bold move". And Michael Ironside is perfect for that time period of Batman.

It's only 20 dollars anyway.:cwink:

Oh that is an amazing episode. I love Batman Beyond too.
