Batman: The Killing Joke animated film is coming

The thing that offends me about TKJ is that Len Wein approved Moore's plans for Barbara by saying "Cripple the *****." Nothing in the book itself.

And it was the same thing when people made controversy when Arkham City came out about the thugs using the B-word.

I'm sorry, but I thought villains were supposed to be awful? If they had heroes using those terms, maybe I'd see a point.... but what the Joker does in TKJ is horrifying and evil.... because he IS evil! You're not supposed to like what he does!

And to be honest, because of the evolution into Oracle (which gave her way more to do than she ever had as Batgirl up to that point), I think what happened in TKJ was a necessary tragedy.

All of this.

Just hope that it centers around Barbara more then anything.

Not sure if you're serious, but it will definitely center around Gordon, Joker, and Batman.

I'm glad. I just hope they don't tone it down.

Reading the twitter on this is absolutely a blast.

Bruce Timm fans backstabbing him and whatnot, best part? They'll watch it anyways.
It's like those GoT fans. They were/are mad at what recently happened to Sansa but they'll keep watching the series and buying the books. :whatever:

Good point! I could see them adding in some Batgirl action in the beginning of the film to heighten the impact of the scene where she is paralyzed.

Yes, and expand Joker's back story a bit, too.

Should they get the classic cast back for this, it's a shame Conroy is going to get the short end of the stick again.

This will be Hamill's movie and potentially the swan song he was always looking for.

Well it wouldn't matter who was playing Batman in this, they were always going to get the short end of the stick. But at least get the best Batman we can possibly get. Especially if they're playing opposite Hamill.

After AC supposedly being his swan song to playing Joker, I'll never believe he is done with the role for good. He made an official goodbye to playing the character back in 2011, and look what happened.

I am probably alone here but I never really liked the Killing Joke all that much so I'm not particularly excited for this.

When I finally read it, I just thought it was ok. I guess all the hype killed it for me.

Not a popular opinion but while I absolutely love The Killing Joke, I prefer Zero Year as an Origin Story for Joker. I think it makes more sense for him to have already been an evil, sadistic genius capable of leading a gang that caused havoc and chaos around the city before he became Joker. He also already shared the view that "life is meaningless" before he became Joker in Zero Year too. Personally I don't think him going from failed comedian with not much special skills to the evil, enigmatic genius he is famous for being in such a short period of time is as believable or as realistic to how it happened in Zero Year.

I guess the idea that anyone can become The Joker after "one bad day" is part of the characters charm and adds to his legend and mystery and I admit I do like that interpretation of the character too but personally I find the Zero Year origin to be more believable and realistic. Killing Joke makes him more sympathetic and understandable too and in my view the Joker should be neither of those things. I like the idea of him always being an evil person or as Bruce put it in Zero Year when talking to Red Hood 1 "you're so full of ****. You don't stand for any truth at the heart of anything. You pretend you do, talking about the randomness of life, the meaninglessness, but its all a sham. Yours (referring to the Jokers life) is an abomination. You're just an evil man pretending to have a cause". I think that is a better description of The Joker before he became "The Joker" than what the Killing Joke gave. All IMO of course.

With all that said, I am as excited as hell for this and I cannot wait. The sooner a date is given, the better.

Maybe the same with me, I loved Year One, Dark Knight Returns, The Long Halloween and Dark Victory, I was told by many that Killing Joke was on the same level as those by when I was read I was pretty underwhelmed.

The grin on Mark Hamill's face when he was finally approached for his dream project must've been very Joker-esque.

This will be the 2016 non-new 52 DC animated film.Thank God it's being overseen by bruce timm.they don't get Mark Hamill to voice joker would be crime.he has said this is project that would bring him out of joker retirement.

He already came out of retirement. This is the thing that might make him go back FOR GOOD.

Very happy about this, I just pray it's handled with care, attention & passion and not just 'thrown together'. Getting the voice acting & casting is essential for this.

I don't remember when I read it in relation to those comics. Those comics pretty much met my expectations. I don't love them or anything. I like them or think they're ok. But, Killing Joke was just really hyped up compared to those.

It's amazing this news, because I've been looking at The Killing Joke for days before this announcement. One of them is this great fan made scene from the GN:

I hope, with any of the changes they'll make with the movie version, they still keep the great scenes from the comic, and make it a direct adaptation with extras.

You know it's really funny, but GoT for 1 week lost like a million viewers, but they did indeed come back after 2 weeks. :woot:

Very much looking forward to this! I wonder if they're going to try and stay as true as possible to Brian Bolland's look.

I'm more excited about this than BvS. This is truly one of the best Batman stories ever. Let's hope the movie does it justice.
