That might be Snyder's way of paying tribute to Star Wars (if not J.J. Abrams). Earlier this year, Snyder tweeted a photo of Henry Cavil in a Jedi outfit and Abrams tweeted back with this:

They used the black robes to hide the costumes while they were filming Man of Steel. So this probably isn't a thing between Snyder and Abrams.
