So I have an Acer Aspire 5742 series and the other day the battery stopped charging with a notice to replace it. I kept it plugged in, I ordered a new one, this morning I got that in the mail and swapped them. Now the new one isn't charging but the notice to replace it is gone.

Any idea what's goin on? I've removed and replaced he battery several times, but still no dice.

Clean out the charging port? Might be something interfering with the connection.

Might also need to reboot, let the battery drain to 0% and die then plug in and reboot and if it's windows go into device manager and un/reinstall the device drivers for the battery. Not using a windows pc anymore I can't verify if the last one would work or not. :p

I second what KevinG mentioned and calibrate the battery (by letting it run to 0%) and then give it try. You can also try pulling out the battery and disconnecting the charger and then hold the power button down for a minute. That will discharge the system. Kind of a long-shot that would work though.

If neither work, it would either be the charger that needs to replaced or the system board. Hopefully, not the latter.

Try this

1) UNPLUG the notebook.
2) REMOVE Battery
3) HOLD DOWN the power button on the laptop for TWO MINUTES....this will ensure ALL power is completely cleared from the unit.
4) Replace battery, plug in, boot up.

On a completely cold reboot, the laptop Recognises the battery and it begins to charge.
