In 1832, after an extended period of travel, study and social climbing, Anne Lister returns to Shibden Hall, her ancestral home in West Yorkshire. The series explores the relationships and interests Lister develops in her quest to transform her house and business interests, as well as to find herself a wife.

I watched this today after seeing the HBO trailer (which is way better than the BBC trailer). The premise is intriguing enough and Suranne Jones has great screen presence, like she was in The Doctor's Wife. I really like the use of her breaking the fourth-wall to narrate Anne Lister's journal. However in the first two episodes Anne's been portrayed as a bit too manipulative and Miss Walker a bit too naive for my taste.
