Ben Affleck Confirms Live By Night as His Next Feature

Maybe the failure of this movie will ensure Affleck will work extra hard on Batman.

Given how's been working on the script for a while, that much is certain at this point.

Although it won't help if people keep pressing him about it.

I just don't think the novel was film friendly. The entire first act could've been it's own film and barely has any relevance to the shootout in the hotel at the end. If he'd tightened up the, or entirely rewritten the second act, shaved down the Return of the King endings and gone more Walter Hill, less Michael Mann, this would've played to the Sicario/Hell or High Water crowds.

I thought Affleck was only really great in Gone Girl and The Town. He did enough in Argo.

Other than those performances, I find him to be a very limited actor. That showed in this picture.

I think Affleck works really well in the roles that particularly suit him. Outside of that, a rather mixed bag.

It wasn't a bad film per se. It just wasn't a very memorable or relevant film that got lost in the shuffle of films like La La Land, Hidden Figures and Patriots Day.

yeah i guess the marketing made it out to be oscar bait

Well Affleck has backed out of directing the new Batman movies. It's for the best.

The pressure can drive people to extreme depression. All those decisions. From what color costumes the extra's wear to scenery set design approval.

You don't like him as a director?
Sounds like you are putting him down.

I didn't mean it like that. The guy was under immense pressure. Directing would be a incredibly difficult task

I agree that the book doesn't really seem suited to screen without some serious changes.

This film probably would of worked better as a miniseries.

I didn't care about Affleck's character's love life. The reluctant gangster thing reminded me a little of A Most Violent Yaer

I think he is a better director than an actor.

I liked Affleck in Boiler Room.
