I just watched the trailer and it looks quite promising, I did a search to see if anyone brought this up but found none, so I thought I should start my own, anyways I love movies based on the Viking/Medieval times and am quite familiar with the Beowulf poem, so my question is has anyone got the chance to watch it?

cheers

There was a thread for this long, oh so very long ago.

I'm looking forward to it.

Nothing will ever beat that one version with Christopher Lambert with the monster and the cool weapons. :p

I do like how they went with just a big guy instead of an actual monster with this version.

Yeah, I read somewhere that the director intended to make Grendel more human than a monster (Troll), which I think gave the movie a realistic look as well as making the audience sympathise with the monster's "humanly" characteristics.

Oh I almost forgot to mention to those who are interested that the DVD is available at amazon.ca, and I'm definitley buying it. :)

Amusing how Beowulf is one of the oldest stories you'll ever come across, but it has 1980's action movie plotting; lone warrior kills monster, lone warrior kills monster's mother, the end. ;)

maybe a screen writer from the 80s was sent back in time and forced to conitnue his art there.

I didn't want to create a new thread for this, so I'll just bump this one.

I was looking forward to this movie, but I guess somewhere down the line I forgot it was coming out till I saw it at Blockbuster today. It was really quite good, although I had trouble understanding a few of the characters. Not because of the dailogue, but cause of those damned accents.

The aspect of Beowulf starting to question whether it was right or not to kill Grendel was a great touch to the story adding a lot of depth to a basic concept. The fighting was a little meh, I would've liked a better action climax.

did this go straight to DVD??? Cause the DVD cover looks alot like the Kingdom of Heaven cover to me.

I want some info on the other Beowulf movie being made.

Hope its more interesting than the poem:o

hey guys, i have seen this movie and let me tell ya, its great! gerad butler is perfect beowulf and the troll instead of monster grendel really works well....now there was some stuff i didnt like, for those of u who ave read the book poem it does have some major diffrences
they say f-ck alot and beowulf and grendel get laid by the same chick
), but it still stays pretty close (for hollywood interpretations) anyways i do recamend it, its very enteraining

8.5/10
