Beowulf is one of the worst movies ever

i saw this movie when it first came out and that was the point that i knew Lambert's career was done. i remember being excited that they made a Beowulf movie but then it turned out crappy...

...good thing Zemeckis is making a movie that'll hopefully do the story justice.

You want justice see the movie "Beowulf and Grendel". It has Skarsgard and Gerard Butler in it. That movie is a serious and closer to reality take on it, especially since all stories and fables are somewhat based on true events but exaggerated over time. Although I always liked the idea of Grendel being a real monster or beast, in reality the movie has him as a cro-magnom kind of man. Basically something that would have been more accurate to what the fable/poem was based on.

Both the Beowulf movies were terrible. I hope the new is halfway decent, but then again Im just there to see AJ half ass naked or least pretty scandedly cladly dressed :)

The only reason I can think of that people think "Beowulf and Grendel" was terrible and this new CGI-fest version is going to rock is the child in people who like the fact that Grendel is a monster/ beast. Like I said in the previous post, the poem Beowulf is slightly based on something that really happened, much like say zorro and robin hood. It's not 100% accurate of course but I like the fact that they made Grendel a Cro-magnom man type because in reality that's what he most likely would have been. Unless you really believe there were monsters/demons walking the earth terrorizing like in fables, if you do you need to get out more.

The movie has already been made and Justice was done for it and it kicked ass three ways from Sunday and the Zemeckis film will not even compare to the 13th warrior :)

admittedly i haven't seen the Gerard Butler version of Beowulf, but the production value alone is enough to turn me off. now that i hear that Grendel is more or less the hunchback from Notre Dame i'm even more turned off. i'll probably see it before i see Zemeckis's Beowulf but i doubt i'll enjoy it that much.

tell me you're joking please. the trailer for Beowulf ALONE was more entertaining to me than the 13th Warrior. i knew the 13th Warrior wasn't that great of a movie even before i really got into movies...

I am sorry if you have no taste for good movies but the 13th warrior is an excellent move and extremely well done.
By far better than any of the other Beowulf movies made by a long shot including the new CGI fest version which I have extremely low hopes for.

Feel free NOT to quote my posts and put me on ignore as I can see where this is going kktnx.

He's not the stupid hunchback from Notre Dame lol or like him at all. As I said in earlier post, two reasons why people who say they know the story are going to like the new CGI one more, 1. Grendel is a monster/boogie man, 2. Angelina Jolie...............I'll add a third, 3. Angelina Jolie.:whatever:

I just like how with "Beowulf and Grendel" they went for a vision of what possibly really happened since fables and myths are based loosely on true events. As much as I love the demon/monster idea, it was still nice to see a vision that wasn't farfetched like fish stories throughout the history of mankind. Fish stories meaning, someone will catch a fish 3ft. long but when they tell people what they caught it magically becomes 8ft long.

hehe...if you say so. sorry you got upset over me calling the 13th warrior lame...but you don't have to resort to attacking my taste. just accept that i thought it was crap and move on.

kinda contradictory don't you think? you haven't even seen the new Beowulf and you're already claiming the 13th warrior is far better.

well seeing as i don't really have a problem with you there'll be no need for that but if me saying that the 13th warrior was a poorly done movie bothers you then feel free to put me on ignore.

well, i'll tell you the reasons i'm looking forward to the new movie.

1 - i'm a CG enthusiast.
2 - i've been wanting to see a movie about Beowulf that somewhat fits what i imagined the story to be like and it looks like Zemeckis is getting pretty close. of course i had my own ideas but the imagery in the new movie is a lot more similar to my vision of Beowulf than the other 2 movies.
3 - Angelina Jolie :woot: i'm not gonna lie, hehe
4 - i want to see the Grendel as monstrous as he can be. now when i read the book i was imagining the Grendel as more of a BEAST than anything but at least Zemeckis's Grendel looks frightening. the Grendel from Lambert's Beowulf was unintentionally comedic and i have yet to see the Grendel from Beowulf & Grendel.

i see what you're saying. if Beowulf & Grendel is approaching the idea in a realistic fashion then i might enjoy it more than if i went into watching it with the idea that they were trying to make it feel fantastical...but like i said, i'll probably give it watch before Zemeckis's version comes out. Gerard Butler's picked some good projects since Reign of Fire so i'll give Beowulf & Grendel the benefit of a doubt.

I would say that I liked the thirteenth warrior, it was a good movie that fell short. The story(book) was excellent, Antonio did a good job, But overall it was not a great movie, more of a decent movie. The supporting actors fell short of delivering a well acted movie, mush of the story was rapidly told, with very little development.

How can you say 13th is better than a movie you haven't even seen? The new CG Beowulf shows a lot of promise, granted I dont care for the way they modelled Grendel but that aside im looking forward to seeing this movie.

Grendel in that one isn't scratching his armpits and the top of his head like some dumb ape. He doesn't grunt or make gibberish noises without meaning, has his own language although to Beowulf it sounds like gibberish. I liked it a lot. I also can't wait for the new one because growing up reading that tale I also always imagined Grendel as a monster, so I want to see if they will get as you put it, the vision of him in my head right. I just liked that realistic take with the version with Butler alot. I think it helped after seeing the crapfest Lambert version lol.

you sir are crazy saying 13th warrior is an 'excellent movie' and then you go all psycho about ignoring and what not. 13th warrior is so horrible, beowulf and grendel is the only movie that even deserves the name beowulf. Figmanj is right in my opinion, but you are entitled to your opinion, and being 41, that opinion is obviously not going to change.

The new Beowulf will be #1!!
All others will be #2 or lower

:P

Do you have more details for your opinion? If not im going to have to assume and throw you in the "Angelina's in it, it's going to rock" group.

No, I just felt like throwing in a partial quote from Mystery Men.

Actually, doesn't Lambert do flips in just about all his movies?

LOL! I haven't seen Mystery Men in quite awhile. I think he is flip happy. Yeah, his version just called "Beowulf" was butt, "Beowulf and Grendel" was much better and more serious. This new one looks cool but im not sure if I will like it better than "Beowulf and Grendel".

hehe...that's what i'll do. i'll watch Lambert's Beowulf and 13th Warrior before watching Beowulf and Grendel :cwink:

13th Warrior owns all.

I was going to say the same about Pathfinder...but then I watched it and couldn't even make it through the whole movie. :(

yeah...Pathfinder was really disappointing. i know it was rated-R but i couldn't help but to keep thinking "this movie was made for 12 year olds".

Was Pathfinder that bad? I enjoyed and own The 13th Warrior, not the greatest film obviously but it was still entertaining. I was looking forward to Pathfinder and decided to wait for DVD, but still haven't gotten around to it. Is it still worth renting at least?

in my opinion...the costumes and sets were the only things up to par. if i didn't know this movie went to theaters i would've thought it was a straight to video movie. there's almost no redeeming qualities. horrible dialogue, bad acting, bland action, and a terrible script.

Most R-rated movies are. You notice that whenever someone says they want a movie, tv show or video game to be more mature they actually want more immature content.

I only say that if what it's based on has a mature rating. I have no idea what your talking about with the wanting mature but really in subtext actually wanting immature content. Just because a movie has graphic violence or some nudity or even swearing does not make it immature at all! Kids are immature, so why can't they see these R rated films if they in fact are as you put it immature themselves??

When I saw the thread I first thought you were refering to the new Beowulf...
the one with Lambert is not really a movie adaption of the book.

heh...during the scene where he starts slicing up the vikings and sliding down the mountain is pretty much where I fell asleep....
