I'm not disputing what he's done, just that the legal sytem is a little flexible. I don't see why murders get as little as 10-20yrs, but Madoff get's 150. I'm not saying Mads should get less. His actions have caused suicide, but that is not murder.

i dont agree with Madoff at all and he should go to prison but suicide is a choice that only the individual doing so can make. he's not responsible for that.

Agreed. However, I do think this guy should have to work in one of those third-world-country jobs where they earn a nickel an hour making shirts or shoes. And he should have to work triple shifts.

Madoff's crime has done a lot more damange than someone that kills one person. Serial killers don't get 10-20 years.

It's still lopsided. Life > Money. The people he scammed have a chance of rebuilding, the same cannot be said for a murderer's victims.

To say Bernie's crime caused alot more lives ruined than an average murder is still imbalanced, because of the severity of murder. It is taking someones life. That cannot be equalled by taking someones money.

To cause suicide by your actions is not the same as killing someone directly, and you cannot technically give someone the blame for this. As i said, Madoff got what he deserved, but alot of murderers do not.

No, their own actions caused their suicides. They pulled the triggers (or performed any other method used). Madoff caused the problem, and his victims were left to solve it (which, as said, some opted to solve with suicide). The solution isn't up to Madoff. He shouldn't be held accountable for their suicides.

Why is there weird number of years in sentences when its past a normal lifetime. Why don't they say life in jail since its obvious he'll die in jail. Why bother getting the exact number of 150 years?

He cheated people out of about $50 billion from what I've heard, which "equates" to a sentence of 150 years. Considering that the typical murderer gets about 30years, by this logic Madoff committed a crime five times more heinous than a murder. This would mean that a human life is worth about $10 billion.

And I thought life was priceless.

I don't feel like 150 years is necessarily justified. We give murderers and rapist less time in jail. While certainly his crime was not victimless and while it did have many many victims I don't necessarily think that this punishment is deserved.

Although I am glad to see a white collar criminal serve actual time that goes beyond a few months in jail.

It's a combined sentence. He probably is getting so many years for each count of a criminal activity.

But he was the catalyst ...you think if they were still rich theyd say "hmm...I think Im going to kill myself today"

Are they shallow people? Yes...and it was a stupid choice but madoff isnt guilt free either

Btw I think 150 years is much...he deserved more like 50 imo...but either way he is dying in jail so what does it matter in his case?
