Inspired by the 'best bruce wayne' poll.

So how about it?

I would say Michael Caine. He had the most parental relationship with Bruce than any other Alfred. But Gough is close enough.

Gough is so sweet and caring, where as Caine is the same sweet and caring yet he hides it behind his friendly jokes with Bruce like something you'd do with a really close Uncle. Caine gets my vote.

i felt that, although i love caine, he's not right simply b/c of the accent. i think he did a great job, but i picture/am used to alfred with a more "proper" british accent, whereas caine has--i think--a more cockney one. don't bash me here on the specific terms, i think that's how you would describe it.

but nolan's british, so he knows what he's doing.

anyway, any alfred's good in my book.

Michael Gough followed closely by Michael Caine. They're both excellent.

Michael Caine. I think he means a llittle more to his movies, and I just like his performance more.

michael gough, because he was EXACTLY what i always pictured alfred as. he was in the plot but not like a major character like caine was. he was always there to give good advice and had a gentleness about him. despite what nolan tried to do to make alfred more of a mover and shaker in the story, thats the way i always thought of alfred. gough did his job and with pride, and acted like a true butler but also had the sense to speak his mind once in a while. he also had the best advice for bruce through the movies. also, gough just WAS alfred, but caine was just michael caine, cockney accent and all.

Tie between Caine and Napier. ( C'mon! Napier at least had moustache.:))

I'm rolling with Gough. I think he had a better balance of father figure and subordinate something that is important with the character IMO. Also though I enjoy Caine as Alfred at the end of the day it's distracting that he didn't change his look or accent because I've been seeing him in movies my whole life. Where as with Gough the first time I saw him was as Alfred so it left a greater impression on me.

Gough was great but I prefer Caine's Alfred. He has a bit more depth to his character that I really admire.

I love Gough and Caine equally for their different qualities as the character.

voted Michael Caine. I think he has the best attitude and involvement with Bruce being Batman, especially in tdk.

1. Sir. Michael Caine - BB & TDK

2. Efrem Zimbalist Jr. - BTAS
