Best Captain Marvel Stories

So I've been looking for some good stories to start reading about Captain Marvel and I know in your combined knowledge you guys can give me some good suggestions. I love his character but I think the only thing I own where he plays a significant role is Kingdom Come. If there are some good TPBs out there that I should read please let me know.

Well, try starting with the most recent retelling of his origins from the 1996 retcon.

I'm afraid aside from the 70s books which are kind of one dimensional....the most you can see of Billy and Cap are in the mini series...Shazam: The New Beginning--taken sometime before Justice League and after Legends. To me that was the most realistic way how they modernized cap/billy--parents died in a car accident....billy lives with his Uncle Thaddius Sivana but wants to be with Uncle Dudley.
And the best thing: NO TALKING TIGERS...
Just total good fight scenes with ......

That's true, that's true....kind of wish they didn't end the Billy/Courtney relationship thing....would want to see how they explain their dates to the other members.

I'd suggest Shazam!: The Power of Hope, the Day of Vengeance trade, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, and The Power of Shazam! one-shot that Jerry Ordway did prior to the 1996 Shazam! series.

The Power of Shazam graphic novel, written and painted by Jerry Ordway is fantastic. The graphic novel by Ordway is a good stand alone story.

If you can find some way to pick up the Shazam archives, they're also great stories. As well as the 70's SHAZAM! back-up feature, by Bridwell and Newton.

I think Legends is a great Cap story.

Of course it involves others but it really takes close look a t BB and CM

Yea its a great read with some memorable dialouge at the end. The last few pages of the book alone are worth the cost
