Better Call Saul! - Breaking Bad Spinoff A Go At AMC

I could see Mike kind of doing his own thing while intersecting with Jimmy here and there but we know Mike used to work with Gus too so that would be a natural way to bring Gus on board with little interaction with Saul

God we haven't even hit the season finale, but when Breaking Bad ended, I didn't hate Walt but I knew what a bad guy he was. This show...god, seeing so much more insight into Mike, I kinda hate Walt way more than I used to for killing him.

Mike knew he was playing with fire.

You can't blame the fire for burning him.

Very, very true. But you can't blame me for liking the guy. At least I still believe Mike did a lot of it for his family, versus Walt's own admission that he did it for himself in the end.

That ending left me heartbroken. I knew it was going to happen like that, but man seeing it like that...I feel so bad for Saul. At the same time we can feel Chuck's conflict - but in the end it's just too big of a disappointment for Jimmy that his brother can't see past his flaws. Mike's arc has enough material for another spinoff - the scene where he dissected the concept of being a criminal was brilliant. Which, btw Nacho doing work not for his boss is probably going to show back up in season 2.

Chuck's betrayal will definitely play a factor into Jimmy's descent but I'd be lying if I said he wasn't a bit of weasel already. However, Jimmy seems like a guy with a conscience (despite his track record), and is a devoted brother and friend. So for me to see Jimmy so broken by Chuck's actions, I don't know. I guess I don't blame him for finally giving into 'the dark side' of the law.

I still can't believe how brilliant this show is. This episode alone was one of the best hours of television I've seen in a while. The scenes with Mike, Trevor from GTA, good vs. bad, pig ****, and Chuck's revelation... this show is so damn good.

Man, Odenkirk was spitting dat hot fire all night long. Some wonderful acting.

Well Mike was never(from what we've been shown so far) been forced to answer such an introspective question as to what his ultimate motivation was. He may find that it's all for himself as well.

Better Call Saul: The Earlier Years

I'm kind of curious what this means for Hamlin. All the times he's been dicking Jimmy over, it's been (presumably) on Chuck's orders. I wonder what he actually thinks of Jimmy.

He couldn't think much of him given how his own brother feels about him. A brother who is himself a master lawyer and more than revered at HHM. But Hamlin was never really a bad guy. Despite how he feels about Jimmy he's never really done anything explicitly wrong throughout the season, he was positioned as the corporate villain that Jimmy needed to thwart as the under dog but it was never that simple. If anything Jimmy has been needlessly antagonistic toward him a few times. His animosity was understandable given what he knew of the circumstances but it was still taken to an obsessive level.

It just goes to show just because someone is smart doesn't mean they're a good person.

If someone took care of me selflessly, looked up to me, and dreamed of working side by side with me I'm not going to attack them for trying to be a big time respectable lawyer like they brother the look up to.

Only an ungrateful, unloyal snob would do that.

Yes but this makes the point that you don't need to be a criminal in order for that to be true as well.

LOVE the show but the one thing that I do not understand if this show takes place in the past (in the year 2002) how is Mike's granddaughter about the same age or so as she is in BB?

Didn't most of Breaking Bad take place around a year and a half? It was set in 2009 if i'm not mistaken, there's a window of 5-7 years, we can assume that Mike's granddaughter can be 4 years old, and by the time she appears in BB she's around 10-11 years old.

Whoa, the professor kinda looks like Chuck.

Mike hinted at this when he told Pryce it was possible to be a good criminal and be a bad law-abiding citizen. Clearly this comment was referring to Jimmy and Chuck.

I knew Chuck would turn out to be a crappy guy. What an awful big brother.

Damn, another episode that made me want to grab a tissue. Look forward to seeing what happens to shady Chuck.

Chuck definitely seems to have a snobby streak. However to be fair, having seen Breaking Bad, he's not exactly wrong in his assessment of Jimmy.

The real question of it is: was Jimmy going to become that person all along, or did Chuck almost single-handedly put him on that road?

I'd be willing to bet on the latter. Jimmy did his damndest to turn his life around, and Chuck all but spit in his face anyway.

If there's anyone who might be worthy of a surprise ricin dose... :o

I agree, Jimmy tried crazy hard to do the right thing time and again, but the fates conspired against him.
