Pop star Beyonce Knowles has issued a warning about the maple syrup diet, after previously praising it for helping her lose weight.
The singer lost 6 kilos in 10 days on the diet, which involves drinking a combination of maple syrup, lemon juice, water and cayenne pepper up to 10 times a day.

British health food shops have reported massive rises in the sale of the Madal Bal brand of maple syrup on which the diet is based.
But Beyonce now insists "I'm very happy with my curves" and has warned women to eat sensibly, despite using the diet to lose weight for her role in the movie Dreamgirls.

In an interview on the BBC Breakfast programme on BBC1, the 24-year-old said: "I would never recommend it to anyone unless you are doing a movie and it's necessary, and you have proper help.

"There are ways to lose weight healthily if you want to lose weight, but this was for a film."

In a separate interview with GMTV, Beyonce said she ate doughnuts "and all the other things" to return to her former weight.

"I'm very conscious of being a curvy woman and I'm very happy that I am a curvy woman."

Nutritionists say the syrup does not contain sufficient nutrients and dieters could end up in hospital if they use it for more than few days.

Love the "Do as I say, not as I do" mentality, even though she's certainly espousing a good message by recommending people eat healthy as a lifestyle rather than do a crash diet. I would love to know who the moron was that developed a diet based on drinking maple syrup 10 times a day, though. That's the dumbest diet I've heard of, yet.

...not a thread i would have predicted you making, jag.

thanks for keeping me on my toes.

I could go for some maple syrup ladyboner right about now.

I'm Canadian, so I drink maple syrup 10 times a day on a regular basis. It is delicious!

I really must applaud Beyonce for trying to break stereotypes and tell girls to be happen to have a womanly figure. It's rare that a celebrity of her stature and sex appeal has the courage to say it's alright to have a curvaceous body.

thats stupid. just nothing but maple syrup and that other stuff. wouldn't you get sick though.

I actually feel ill just thinking about the ingredients of that concoction.

I'm really starting to wonder since when women found it wrong to have a curvaceous body. I mean, that's what women are usually depicted as. Curvaceous.

yeah, curvy=hot.

Let it be known that curvaceous does not mean "fat".

Everyone in my office tried this frickin' diet, including my boss's husband. What a crock of *****. It's also known as the lemonade diet, the syrup is just to make it palatable. It's starving yourself, plain and simple; that's not a diet. As for its detoxifying effects, I can't say, but I'm highly dubious. Supposedly, once you start eating normal foods again, you're "cleansed" and won't gain the weight back...as long as you aren't eating McDonalds or something.

I have a fantastic diet plan that works every time:

Eat less

Anything that pumps your body full of that much sugar isn't detoxifying in the least.

Well, not recently and by Hollywood standards. I live in a small, armpit of a city and the estimation is that if you aren't a size 2, you don't matter.

You know, I don't know what you guys call fat, but as far as curvy goes, I think this image of Sharon Den Adel from the Dutch symphonic Metal Group Within Temptation is an example of a healthy, curvaceous, female.
