Bill Hader is BARRY (HBO)

That bike chase was awesome and honestly that's the level of creativity and excitement I wish we got to see in a Fast and Furious film because that's something we never got in any of those movies.

I know the newer movies have been on the dumber side, but that doesn't mean you can't bring some level of professional craftmanship to it, especially when we have top notch modern action films like Fury Road, Fallout and most recently Top Gun: Maverick which had some of the best aerial action scenes I have ever seen. I would put the John Wick films up there too although I don't really consider them blockbusters.

I think Fast & Furious definitely have professional craftsmanship to them.

I get not liking the films. But a lot goes into the making and planning of those action scenes. Especially when so much of it is practical. Again I get not liking them but there's a lot of talent, crafting, and planning that goes into scenes like having cars skydive, the chase in F9, etc.

Yeah, I see where your coming from and if we were just talking about Fast Five and Furious 6 I'd agree with you but I think the franchise went somewhat downhill after those movies.

I mean I can only speak for myself but it felt like it was only getting dumber for the sake of it like the Transformers movies did after a while and they definitely went overboard with the reliance on CGI.

Looking back I wish Furious 7 had been a French Connection style chase movie that I remember hearing rumors that James Wan originally wanted to do instead of what we actually got.

We're talking about different things.
As I said in my last post, the movies themselves YMMV on quality. But you questioned the craftmanship at least that's what I took from what you said (apologies if I misread or mistook what you were saying) when, for the most part, are very well made when it comes to the craftmanship and take a lot of talent to put together. Yes even post Fast 6

Furious 7: How Brian's Bus Jumping Scene Was Shot (Did Paul Walker Do It?)

Yes there is CGI but also a tremendous amount of stunt work and practical effects that goes into making the movies even if the scripts are non existent.

Again, I get not liking the movies. But questioning the craftmanship of the movies is pretty silly to me when it's clear they do put a lot work into them even if the movies themselves aren't great. And it's not like they're trying to be anything but dumb fun action movies. Not everything needs to be MI, Fury Road, or Maverick.
There aren't that many huge movies doing practical stuff like this. Especially not movies on the success or level of Fast and Furious. I didn't even like F8te that much and I didn't like F9. But there clearly is hard work and craftmanship that goes in to making the action scenes when they could've easily phoned it in and done CGI everything like a lot of DC or Marvel. I mean just look at the trailer and use of CG in The Grey Man vs the F&F series

But this isn't the Fast and Furious thread

Yeah, I didn't mean to make it sound like I was questioning all the hardwork that goes into making those movies, because I know that kind stuff takes a lot of money and effort from everyone involved.

I guess we just have different perspectives when it comes to this which is fine, but I was more talking about the skill of directing and editing that was on display in this latest episode of Barry.

Again, I'm only speaking for myself and really my whole argument has more to do with the quality of action we are getting in those movies more than anything, but I completely understand and agree with your viewpoints.

What an insane episode and the crazy part about it is I probably rewatched the Vannesa Bayer scene more than any other part of the episode.

A couple years break hasn't changed that this is one of the most unique and stylish shows on right now. Constantly pulling between nail-biting tension and laugh out loud comedy, all put together in a way no one else is doing. Love it. And glad I wasn't crazy for thinking of GTA during that chase.

I swear I hadn't even heard of beignets before, but now I need one ASAP.

I had some mediocre ones in some high school cafeteria. But I remember when I was a kid they named dropped them in Scooby Doo: Zombie Island and I've wanted a real one since then.
By all accounts, New Orleans/Louisiana as a whole have the best ones

Beignets are a Louisiana thing and they are delicious when fresh. It's only worth getting if you're in New Orleans.

Just caught up with the season and man is this not lowkey like the best show on television? I mean, the writing, directing and acting is just master level here and the way it juggles dramatic and comedic tones.

Also…the beignet barista dude, omg, that whole bit had me :funny::funny::funny::funny:. Who is that actor??

Damn this has been a really rough season for Sally. I felt really bad her for her throughout this episode and that scene in the elevator was pretty intense too but satisfying asf at the same time lol.

I still find it hard to believe that there is only one episode left because it feels like this season just started, but hopefully the wait for Season 4 isn't nearly as long as it was for Season 3.

Gonna place a bet:

Sally kills someone before the season is over.

The elevator freak-out and the backing into the darkness feel like too great of parallels to ignore. She’s about to pop off.

Maybe Sally should rethink things with Barry after all! If her freak out at Natalie was any indication, she's got his rage!

Also, loved Fuches' story in interrogation right at the end. Stephen Root was great there.

“Now, despite the fact that the four-letter-word in question here was traditionally used as a form of kinship between women and is widely used in Europe…”

:lmao:

For years people have spoken about how some comedic actors are really able to turn it on when it came to drama. Robin Williams, Eddie Murphy, Jamie Foxx, Monique, Jim Carrey.

But I feel like there's something to say about comedians/comedic actors doing horror. Examples like Jordan Peele's directing, David Gordon Green & Danny McBride with Halloween 18 (I don't wanna talk about Halloween Kills), John Krasinski with A Quiet Place, hell even some seens from Donald Glover's Atlanta are very horror like or even straight up horror.
That scene of Sally's rant as she backs away into the darker part of the house was legitimately haunting. SO creepy. Bill Hader really nailed the directing

My prediction is Sally is gonna wanna use Barry's special talents sometime in the near future

I agree. More than just his acting on the show, Hader's really nailing it in the directing department but he's a known cinephile so I'm sure he's been loving every second of it. He's definitely cementing his place in the "Most Talented SNL Alum" conversation.

Wife and I binged the season over the last two nights to catch up for the finale. Fantastic season that has me in stitches from how off the wall it's been. There are people who are watching this show without surround sound and I truly feel sorry for them. That chase scene was incredibly staged and shot, but the spatial audio brought it to another level. Noticed it especially this season, but Barry is the only show I can pinpoint to its creators putting special effort into the surround sound mix for even the most mundane scenes. Every channel is full of life.

Hader’s directing is incredible. This is one of the few shows that just gets better with every episode. Only one episode left! Gahhhhh.

We need to see more of that barista! :funny::funny:
Excuse me, beignet-entrepreneur who's **** is about to franchise.

Finally caught up and I am in agreement Sally will get back with Barry and We get a bonni and Clyde type situation for s4 YES PLZ

When Barry was suggesting things to do to her boss. Lolol. Wow man

This and the boys are the best shows going.

Had no idea there's only one ep left. It's gone so fast. :(

Again, loved this one. Even that slow shot of the suburb becoming the beach kind of blew my mind. Interesting points being made about Sally maybe being pulled to darker territory... does she do something in the heat of moment and turn to Barry to help cover it up, or does she actually approach him to do something on her behalf...?

Also Hank's "Okay, that's what I thought you were doing, but I didn't want to be rude, so..." had me LOLing.

WOW if that was the series finale I would not have been mad about it
Hader needs the Emmy for that

With the Asian cop that turns out was a war buddy of his I felt that anguish
