Like you said earlier. Clark is a bamf. I was upset that he didnt get as much support in the last election.
. Wesley Clark was amazing this week, I honestly never knew just how smart and ethical he was until then.
No they were talking about Burkas, and he's right. It was the other guests who brought up abuse and women being property, which is not the case in every Islamic or Middle Eastern country. Many many women who wear Burkas choose to, even after moving out of those oppressive societies. Even more to the point he was showing that people were intolerant of others based on choice. It's not your, my or this countries job to save everyone from themselves, just because YOU think burkas are a sign of oppression doesn't mean they are. Someone could just as easily make the argument that the beauty standard and risque style of dress encouraged over here is just as demeaning. The guy said that the women who lived in those oppressive regions in which they have few rights and are controlled basically chose to and like it. That just reeks of being smart.

So what? Since when is it America's job to condition you to believe certain things (don't be sarcastic either)? So do Hasidic Jews, they have a code of dress. As do Quakers, Amish and many Native American cultures. We don't tell them to change. And many of them live in societies were they could, if they choose, leave.Come on, those women were brought up like that since birth for generations, its not like they had a choice to begin with.
No it's part of a religion, not an oppressive society. Sometimes those religious practices just end up in oppressive societies. Same could be said for any religion. Many of these women who wear Burkas live in this country, and still decide to live by their religious practices. Its all they know. Thats part of the oppressive society.

The only reason this is an issue is because we see the Middle east as our enemies, so naturally every single practice and cultural belief they hold must be, therefore, wrong.
