I love that we have been in the middle of a worldwide pandemic for months now and Trump has refused to shut anything down but the second Americans start protesting police killing a black person it's time to implement curfews. What a horrible human being.

Right before Trump came out to speak, police on horseback, National Guard, and military police rolled out in huge force to drive the crowd away from the White House.

He came straight out calling them an angry mob and domestic terrorists and himself the president of law and order. He threatens to deploy the military to the cities if the governors don’t use the National Guard to restore order.

Afaik, he cant unilaterally deploy the military to cities unless actual martial law is legally declared.

I admire your optimism but the die-hard Trumpers I know will literally never budge from anything. It's just anecdotal so take it with a grain of salt but I honestly don't know anyone who voted for him 4 years ago that has openly expressed they won't do so again.

I hope I'm wrong. But we're a fundamentally racist country, and Trump is the candidate for fundamentally racist people.

Yeah....like my friend @kvz5, I'm the eternal optimist. LOL. Here's the thing.....he didn't win by much last time. Now he's got the power of the presidency and has the heart of his hardcore backers, BUT I still think most people want some form of stability and decency. I think most people understand the inequities highlighted by this murder and will vote accordingly.

Course.....I live in California....Santa Cruz, San Francisco, LA.....my wife's mom is from Oklahoma and her father (a good guy BTW) is from western Massachusetts. She's told me on many occasions that I overestimate people....about 4 years ago, I started paying attention to that.

Just want to point out, a lot of police departments are in essential revolt against the more progressive elements in power. It is pretty clear the platform of the democratic party has shifted. Another party isn't going to change things.

Anyway, businesses around here are closing early, because apparently they have been getting told by the police that there are credible threats tonight. Call me... skeptical. I do hope things remain peaceful tonight, it has been pretty good here in my city.
