BLM Protests Across The World

That's my main gripe about his administration.

When sh*t got really real the first time with the murders of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown, he could have done so much more to ensure that incidents like those didn't happen again, especially being the first black president. Instead we got a speech about him saying how Trayvon could've been him 30 years ago.
Legitmate question. What could he have done? What did him being the first black president have to do with his ability to change things in terms on a policy basis? More over, one of the big issues was the push back by many parts of law enforcement to having the first black president.

It's a crime that Boyega was sidelined in those Star Wars movies to the extent that he was. His character, like others in the trilogy, had so much dramatic potential, but he ended up being relegated to glorified comic relief. So it's very inspiring now to see him help lead the fight against an evil authoritarian regime in real life. :yay:

That's all Obama is good at: making nice-sounding but ultimately hollow speeches.

In theory, he could have pushed his justice department to bring charges against killer cops and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.

But this isn't really about Obama as a person. It's a systemic issue. The entire reason he was able to become president is because he offered no real threat to existing systems of power. Indeed, he strengthened them, because through his charisma and his personal story he was able to provide a "progressive" gloss on a fundamentally violent, unequal and exploitative system, at least for a time.

If Obama had ever truly threatened the powers that be, there's a good chance he would have gotten the JFK treatment. Instead he played ball, defended existing power structures at every turn, and now as a former president he's cashing in. This is why focusing on who is president, or which political party is in power, is less important than focusing on the class that holds economic and political power. To quote Lisa Simpson, "The whole damn system is wrong!"

The last thing the president should be doing is telling his justice department what to do. He should hire folk he trust to make the right decision and let them do their job. We are literally living with Trump right now, who is showing us the issue with the opposite.

So #WhiteLivesMatter has been trending on Twitter and now KPop fans have decided to spam it with KPop fan cams. On one hand, it keeps it trending but at the same time, who wouldn’t love to see the confusion on the racists’ faces who wanted it to trend only to see KPop stuff instead? We love allies! :awesome:

Drew Brees proving why peaceful protesting can apparently never be enough, while also being an issue. He cares more about a piece of cloth then human lives, while showing he is obviously clueless how much America sucks for certain people in it:

This started last night with #bluelivesmatter, and it has only gotten better from there. :funny:

I respect the hell out of John Boyega for being willing to risk it all for the cause.

Bigots are going to be coming for Boyega hard now. They were already trigger by Boyega's social media posts.

How long will these protests last? It's already been days and we all know not much will change. Police and Trump keep responding more aggressively. It's a shame but there's no winning.

The 1992 Rodney King and 2014's Ferguson riots came and went. Became nothing but sad parts of history

And the last thing the racists want to do is to anger KPop fans. They are super fanatical.

Remember how vocal and adamant and effective he was about getting gay marriage legalized, and inevitably it got done? In the midst of doing all that he also could've stepped in to these different states where black people were getting murdered by law enforcement and had the justice department look into these cases and start making changes. Him being the first black president and trying to right these wrongs would've just been the right thing to do, especially for people who helped him get to where he was at.

That happened a lot slower than I thought it would.

I do think these protests are on a totally different scale than the unrest in L.A. or Ferguson. This is truly nationwide. And I think political consciousness has advanced dramatically as well. People have far fewer illusions in promises of reform from politicians.

Regardless of how long the protests last, the key question after this will be channeling this energy into a concrete organization capable of taking power: an independent working class party. That means outside the Democratic Party.

Both the Democrats and Republicans are united in their opposition to the protesters and willingness to crush them with brute force. The only difference is one of them pretends to sympathize with the protests. It's the classic "good cop, bad cop" routine. But as we're seeing, cops in general are becoming a lot less popular these days.

I would normally agree with you but this seems...different. I feel the pressure with this is a more stronger than those cases. Remember we’re in the middle of the worst Pandemic in over a hundred years, the worst and most blatantly bigoted President in modern history who isn’t uniting the nation and has exacerbated racial tensions with his rhetoric, and huge unemployment rates rivaling that of the Great Depression.

I think this is the breaking point. This feels like a major turning point for the country. I could be wrong, but I really feel this is going to change things.

He did have them look into them. But he could not force them to press charges. One of the big issues, is any change is going to run into issues of law. That is where things need to change and the Republicans love the amount of power law enforcement have, and if we are honest, it's the same for most Democratic leaders.

Hopefully! Things sure will be interesting after November

Funny enough even though Boyega says he might not have a career for doing this, I actually think his career is actually going to skyrocket after this. There’s so many in Hollywood speaking about this issue from Disney to Warners. It’s honestly quite stunning the amount of attention this incident has received from all walks of life... and business.

That might be an ideal solution, but I think that new party would take far more votes from
Democrats than Republicans. You could get into a 3 party race that the Republicans always win with that method.
