BLM Protests Across The World

Status Quo Forever!
"Joe Biden would like to announce, that for his first state visit he will be inviting King T'Challa to the White House. He would also like to state that within his first 100 days in office, he will be arming all black Americans with vibranium hoodies, and all cops will be relieved of their guns, replaced by the Shuri hand panther thingies, auto set to aim for the leg. Wakanda Forever."

Considering the police reform bill we’ve been discussing.......yea?

How meaningful the reform is, is in question. Also whether they pass it. This is before we get into how they have let this stuff endure for generations. But come on. If they are going to show up and be racists, are you seriously going to be annoyed with people being annoyed with it? Because that **** right there is racist.

Performative outrage isn’t any more constructive than performative pandering.

I have to wonder what the solution will be if police are just disbanded. Will we just take matters into our own hands or will there be something set up to deal with crime in general?

Calling actual BS out isn't performative. Calling out people showing up like they are Michael Scott on diversity day sure as hell isn't performative. But it's fine, let's act like what these clowns are doing is perfectly fine. Let's act like they really care. Especially when I am looking at a woman who did indeed vote for the crime bill.

I doubt police will simply be dismantled. Have to be replaced by an all new force or something.

Maybe a force of real life Robocops

Dismantling the police is impractical.

And what most of those advocating "defund the police" are actually calling is for is reduced budget and powers, and allocating some of the duties that have been dubiously thrown under their umbrella to people more qualified to deal with them, like having mental health professionals or the fire department answer 911 calls that are about mental health issues instead of armed cops (who have ended up unnecessarily shooting mentally ill people before).

Disbanding or defunding the police doesn't really do away with the police.

The idea for disbanding the police is to disband the correct police departments, and force everyone to reapply under new rules, oversight, etc.

Defunding is all about reducing the role of the police in areas they shouldn't be a part of. Like when cops are called to schools for disciplinary issues with children.

The idea behind disband and defunding the police is to reduce their power, and have them serve their actual function as opposed to what we are dealing with now. They did it in Camden, New Jersey and it has worked out. Sort of.

That's what I was talking about with some of the duties that have fallen under the police department's umbrella being fielded out to people actually qualified to deal with it, like mental health professionals responding to non-violent 911 calls relating to mental health issues.

The problem right now is that very few understand the differences and most are probably thinking that disband = defund = demantle = abolish = erase = eradicate = no jobs = no money.

Yes. I think John Oliver discussed it rather well last night on his show, but the vast majority of Americans aren't going to watch that, and we already see the counterattack spin beefing up that line of attack. Which is why I do not mind Biden not touching it during this election cycle. Far too messy an issue, that is easily exploited by dishonest tools.

I just want to say that the Congressional Black Caucus handed those out to the congress people. So, a little uncomfortable labeling it as completely pandering.

NRA is going to love this. Sales of firearms will go up again because people will think they have to defend themselves if there’s no police.

Yup. It's a little problematic---dare I say racist--- to say the Congressional Black Caucus is pandering about black people.
