Action Comics #842: I really liked this ish, about thirty times better than #841 was, with all that unreadable robot-speech. I don't know why Busiek would print such drivel. However, this ish was good, and Woods' art really kicks ass.
Trials of Shazam #1: I don't know that much about Captain Marvel. I always thought that the premise was great but I soured on the whole Marvel family thing--a little too hokey, in my mind. Why not just leave it be with Captain Marvel and Black Adam (a character that 52 has familiarized to me, and the familiarization of DC's universe is easily that book's best quality in my eyes, as I am fairly lukewarm to the book otherwise). So, I pick up this book, because I want to get into Captain Marvel, even though he only ever gets minis, and even though Judd Winick is writing. I figured he wouldn't get too statement-y on this book; I'm happy to report that he didn't. From what I have heard about his Green Arrow and Batman stuff, I can only assume that this is the best thing he's put out in quite some time. With no attachment to Billy Batson, and with only passing knowledge of the mythos, I can only assume that my desire for there to be fewer Marvel family members is being satisfied, with the end of this issue, as the main man seems to be movin' on up to the east side. This book was pretty, pretty, pretty good. I'll be buying the rest of the series.
