Bought/Thought August 30th. (SPOILERS!)

When the book hit, I NEVER ONCE saw someone complain about the art around here. Sorry. I know you want DC to suck as bad as Marvel, but it just doesn't.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I need to make a DC Zombie pic for you. That was hilarious. "I didnt see it, therefore it didnt happen." Nice. Real nice. Fact is we got crappy art and now theyre releasing a hardcover with much improved art, and thats messed up.

P.S. I didnt mind the art either, but its so damn easy to get you riled up. LMAO!

Just read X-Factor and full review later but
Really guys, its set up to have Guido come out of this clean. You think they added that "changeling" scene in the beginning for ****s and giggles?

Hey, I enjoy it quite a bit. It's a hell of a lot better than Infinite Crisis, if you ask me. It's just that the number of characters and the overall scope, coupled with the bi-monthly schedule, really makes it hard to keep track of everything.

Speaking of IC, Wizard's review of the trade really pissed me off. They reviewed the issues versus the "corrected" pages of the trade. DC, are you listening? If so, **** YOU. It's one thing to add bonus material, it's another to re-do things you feel weren't up to par. That's utter garbage. It's disrespectful to fans and the artists, too. I paid good money for issues that they released knowing that they weren't as good as they could've been. I would've taken a delay (a la Civil War) over that any day. Next DC event, count me out.

BrianWilly, Marvel Boy's been tampered with and in custody since the end of his mini, if memory serves. So this really isn't the Pro-registration being bastards.

Haha, Brevoort almost looks intelligent now. Go marvel, go marvel, go marvel. ANYONE riled yet...?

Dude, you need to fckin relax with these annoying ass posts."Marvel sucks,JQ should die,DC rules all, blah blah blah".Seriously Doc,you're such a god damned baby.

No, I call them like I see them. How come I didn't see you comment on the Marvel books I read this week that I LIKED?

What?

Mostly through WIZARD #180 and despite the cover's tagger, fortunately it doesn't spill the beans on any CW stuff you didn't already know by now, such as who is on who's side and a "bloody battle" happens in CW #4 (duh). Bendis and Bagley do a commentary on their entire run of USM, and it's actually interesting stuff. Somewhat amusing that Bendis feared "getting predictable" around the second arc or so, and yet he doesn't realize that he has. Still, it's a nice read and sets up CLONE SAGA fine. BTW, CLONE SAGA for USM is probably their best story in years so far, but it has such a "Peter's life will never be the same again! This is the point of no return!" that you know the book may hit a corner because unlike a manga, American comics are eternal serials instead of stories with a clear beginning, middle, and end, and therefore if you write a story that comes to an eventual head, you'll inevitably have to go, "oh, there's more" and that can lead to some hassles.

Bendis also claimed that the preview for MIGHTY AVENGERS "didn't reveal who survives CW" because, basically, "you never know that Tony Stark is in the armor", or that some of the other characters didn't pass on their costumes to someone else. To that I reply:

BWWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!

Marvel with a legacy character? What next, monthly art by Bryan Hitch? OOoo, ooooh, I know...a Mark Millar storyline written while Bush is still president that doesn't exaggerate and villify the conservative POV! C'mon? Marvel doesn't have the BALLS to take one of their A-list characters, kill them off and make a legacy out of it. Or at least do all that and do it naturally and WELL. If Bendis has control of one of their solo titles, if he was writing CW, I could believe it, because at this point I am convinced that Joe Q would allow Bendis to do whatever he wanted. But he's not. So, sorry, I'm not biting. Cap and Iron Man live, and that's fine. I doubt anyone wants them to croak anyway.

That said, I wish Bendis could have been that decent with classic superhero action more often in NEW AVENGERS.

Bendis also misses the point when people think he's "just writing USM in NA". No, it's not because you have Spidey make wisecracks. It's because you write him as a helpless, inept, inexperienced "rookie hero" feeb who needs blind men and his girlfriends to save him from battles, exactly like you write USM. It has nothing to do with the jokes.

The issue also has previews of a lot of stuff, including DR. STRANGE.

The issue also has a shrink look over some of the Stan Lee written "exchanges" between Reed and Sue from his long run on the title to sort of see the "start" of their marital issues. The folly of this, of course, is that Stan Lee has a very distinct method of writing dialogue, one that was alright for the Silver Age but by today's standards is stilted and aged horribly. Therefore taking today's standards for comic book dialogue and intereactions and applying them to 70's Lee stuff is almost like looking back on ancient peoples and going, "Well, they didn't invent electricity like we did, so they were stupid". Back in 1974 you could write a perfectly good line that went, "Be still, woman, I'm handling this!" Expectations were not the same for audiences, and comics still had very macho in-tones. But today it naturally seems stilted and more sexist than intended. Times have changed, and you can't look at everything from one glass without missing context.

- As for YA/RUNAWAYS #2, I'm not sure where some people got the idea that Xavin was dead. It seemed obvious that he was TKO'd or something by Marvel Boy. Anyway, the title is excellent and I can't wait for the rest. Considering SHIELD captured Marvel Boy at the end of his series, I could totally see them using him as a "super-Kree attack dog" if they had to. The Pro-Reg side hasn't been depicted as anything BUT "do whatever it takes, emotionless jackasses", regardless if they're Agent Hill, Iron Man or even the formerly emotional Mr. Fantastic. So I'm not surprised. At least the characters are the focus here, and not political bleating. Wells knows who you're supposed to be rooting against, and doesn't jerk around about it.

- I had no problem with the art in the IC issues. As it stands, it would be smarter if comics started employing two regular artists who split the workload; one does six or so issues, then takes a break for the other. I mean for titles where the art of ONE person is the main selling point, like Ross or Cassaday or Hitch, then you can't. But for an event title, it's the EVENT thats sells it, not the art. Fans would have tolerated a fill-in on CW, assuming they were still a good artist whose art fit the tone. Saying, "all fill-in art sucks" is self-defeating and leads to a vicious cycle.

Then does that count? I mean... do you have a level of calmness below this "riled up" level, or is it just your norm? The scientists are eagerly awaiting your answer.

QFT.

Its some world of warcraft geek-speak or it means Quit ****ing Talking, which is what I thought he said. And it's funnier that way, cos it seems to imply Doc agreed with the no-fill-in-artist stance

Okay.

And JUSTICE #7 is awesome. The whole series has been great so far.

A shame that Romita Jr.'s covers for THE ETERNALS had to be the rare, expensive varients and not the regular titles, because I find them far better. Oh, well.

I dont think you read Marc's post AT ALL. Hes complaining that those really crappy rushed art pages in IC #7 have been redone and put in the book. Therefore, people who buy the hardcover will get the high quality IC pages for #7 while the people who helped DC rise to #1 buying the single issues got shafted with the crappy rushed pages in IC #7.
Thank you. First, for reading my post, second for backing me up. If Marvel pulled this, there'd be non-stop *****ing, but DC does it and it's ok? I call bull ****.

Doc, you and I both know the only thing Lucas changed between the original release and the special editions was that "Episode IV" was added. Even still, that's an addition, not a subtraction, or a "fix". If DC simply added a scene, that'd be one thing, but to out-right change an issue is garbage and I stand by that 100%. IC #7 was rushed, and it showed. The art was definitly not nearly as impressive as previous issues, and Nightwing goes from apparently dead to fine and dandy? That's utter crap.

I'd really like to see what the artists think about this. Did they know beforehand? If so, they're just as much to blame. If not, it's downright insulting.
