30 years later. If DC changed Infinite Crisis 30 years later, I could overlook it. 4 months? That's another story. That's an admission that we were sold an inferior product.

i know, i was just pulling you up on the star wars stuff, marcdachamp. it makes my life worthwhile.

Thank you. First, for reading my post, second for backing me up. If Marvel pulled this, there'd be non-stop *****ing, but DC does it and it's ok? I call bull ****.

Doc, you and I both know the only thing Lucas changed between the original release and the special editions was that "Episode IV" was added. Even still, that's an addition, not a subtraction, or a "fix". If DC simply added a scene, that'd be one thing, but to out-right change an issue is garbage and I stand by that 100%. IC #7 was rushed, and it showed. The art was definitly not nearly as impressive as previous issues, and Nightwing goes from apparently dead to fine and dandy? That's utter crap.

I'd really like to see what the artists think about this. Did they know beforehand? If so, they're just as much to blame. If not, it's downright insulting.
You're right, if Marvel did this you'd hear more complaining. But there is a double standard, and I've mentioned it a few times. Marvel gets flack for turning a sitcom like DAMAGE CONTROL into something nefarious, but DC's been doing stuff like that all the more frequently, starting with Identity Crisis. That's just how it is. Out of the Big Two, DC's the underdog challenger to Marvel's Champion of Sales (they domainte maybe 10-11 months of the year, and that's for a GOOD DC year), and everyone likes an underdog.

- As for Alan Moore's latest project, I read his words about it in the last issue of WIZARD and while he had a few points, I felt he was likely reaching to try to claim that "pornography can be art", and according to reviews, I may be right. Right, porno can be art. And I read Playboy for the articles.

Playboy does have some really good articles.

Can anyone answer how marvel boy is popping up in NA/Runaways when the Marvel boy Mini did not appear to take place in earth of the 616 universe??

I mean I was dead sure that Marvel boy was NOT in 616 continuity and i just re-read issues 1-2 that i own.

Hmmm..

WIZARD a while back claimed that Morrison's MARVEL BOY, circa 2000, was retroactively placed in Ultimate continuity. But apparently Marvel never made such a claim and they seem to be sticking with Marvel Boy in 616, as he's being used in YA/RUNAWAYS. The Official Handbook also backs this claim (last month's issue had his bio).

Darthphere presents.......

Reviews from my mom's basement in HD.

52 Week #17-This issue focuses on Luthor's personal "JLA" and how heroes can be commercialized and mainupulated. Yay for Luthor, at least hes not in some giant robot firing Krypton tanks at people. The other half focuses on the Lost in Space gang. Man, can you cut the sexual tension with a butter knife or what? Adam Strange, just hit that already. Also, Lobo appears. Cool, I guess. Never cared much for Lobo, I put him in the same league as Deadpool, never understood the appeal. Origin of Lobo backstory, skipped it, thanks to Wikipedia. Overall, the last 2 issues have been probably the most solid of the series so far. Did anyone else have a page stuck together? Either way: 7.5 Adam Starnge eyeballs out of 10

X-Factor #10-Have I told you guys how much I love this title? Because I do, a lot. This issue doesnt fail me. The flashback sequence in the beginning was beautifully drawn by Roy Allan Martinez of Son of M fame and the rest by Renato Arlem. I still miss Sook :(, but Raimondi will come on board soon so thats great. Hilarious opening with Jamie waking up to only find out he had a dupe running around romancing Theresa and M. Jamie, youse in trouble. This issue apparently reveals the traitor for Singularity within X-Factor but c'mon guys, lets use some context clues. I also just realized Singularity is like X-Factor's opposite. Think about it, Singularity-Multiple Man, get it, get it? I was high when I thought this, but Morrison smokes everyday, so I guess its ok. Wait, what im I talking about? Right,
That ain't Guido, mark my words.
ANother great issue from PAD and X-Factor. 9 Madrox one night stands out of 10

Civil War: Young Avengers and Runaways #2-I told you guys Zeb Well could pull this off. We get the always cliche fight scene between teams and then they realize theyre not enemies. The inclusion of
Marvel Boy
is interesting and im eagerly awaiting the next issue to find out more. Lots of nice moments like Xavin and Teddy and Nico cant keep her damn legs closed. Damnit girl, calm the hell down. 8 Nico condoms out of 10 (Be Careful Patriot)

Teen Titans #38-This issue begins the Titans world tour in search of Raven and whatever that crazy ho is up to. Rose is angry at Cassie and is all paranoid of being kicked off the team, Robin and Cassie try to talk about "the kiss" but Tim gave her the Batman cold shoulder. Red Star is a *****e, by the way Eddie B., I think we can surmise that its being translated from Russia, were not that stupid. One of the better Titans OYL issues, I still have hope that Johns pulls this title out of this rut and starts to rely less on the soap opera antics. 8 references to STalin out of 10

Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters #2-Palmiotti and Gray have really crafted an intriguing and engaging story here about ploticis and superheroes and secret government agendas. Uncle Sam convinces the agents of SHADE to fight for his cause and do so and kick some ass in the process. Daniel Acuna's art is a lot better this issue and I can really see this guy becoming a regualr interior artist. For some reason the death of Ted Knight has been pretty quiet amongst the fanboys which I find odd. Great 2nd issue, hope this will continue. 9 Red, White, and Blue Top Hats out of 10

She-Hulk #11-What more can I say, this title never disappoints. John Jameson turns into the Man-Wolf, goes on a rampage. Pug gets taken out, Mallory finds out Andy is the cause of all these romantic feelings running around, Jennifer seems to be back to true form and a nice surprising ending all come together to make the nice perfect packaga of She-Hulk cookiness. Its always fun to see Two-Gun Kid running around and like always, look forward to more. 8.5 Silver bullets of 10

Superman/Batman #29-Verheiden delivers a real solid issue here as Superman and Batman continue to investigate all the crazyness as old villains and return and new villains are made. It seems the Green Lantern rings are reacting weird as well which doesnt help the Hal/Batman relationship. Martian Manhunter is in the house, but with his, I hate humanity brooding new fall look. I really like this issue, and the series as a whole. Its outside the box, and sometimes you need titles like that. 8 Emo Martians out of 10

Trials of Shazam #1-This issue was pretty damn good, but its only there to show us "Hey, see all this fun Captain Marvel hokey stuff, we aint doing that **** anymore, were making a cooler Captain marvel so heres Billy as an old Guy in a white outfit, bye *****es." Which is pretty much true, Winnick, Porter, and DC have all said theyre taking a "mature" approach to the character aka dark and broody and all that nice DKR stuff. But the issue itself was great. Porter's new art style is fantastic, ill stick around for the series but I hope they don't mess him up too much. 8 Shazam powered Plasma tvs out of 10

Darthphere's Late Review.....yay for underordering comics!

Flash #3-The title is highly mediocre, but what a difference the art makes. I really didnt mind the overall mediocrity of the title as I spent my time looking at the pretty art. Id die for Karl to stay on this title, id literally die to pay for all your sins of medicore art. The issue was pretty good, much improved over the last 2. I already hate Griffin, I hope Jay whoops his ass or something. DC, more Karl on Flash please, its all I ask. 6 Hail Mary's out of 10

...whew. Ok, I did it :D

I agree about X-Factor. I was thinking "shapeshifter" the whole time.

So really guys,is All Star Supes really that good?I'm thinking about picking it up.

Consider this:

I enjoyed Red Son,For All Seasons,Birthright and Kingdom Come.
I hate hyped books like AXM,but I love hyped books like Ultimates.

Do you guys think I'll dig it?

There's a real overwhelming sense of people saying how awesome it is no matter what board you're on.

I'm holding off on supporting a Batman or Supes book till I get my bearings in the DC universe. Those guys are in soooo many books. I thought Spidey and Wolverine were bad :(

The art from #7 was not bad, and saving Nightwing from death was a favor to the fans...something Marvel forgot how to do some time ago.

The Lucas changes to Star Wars were an abomination. Thus, I didn't buy them. I won't be buying the IC collection either, because I'm fine with the copies I have. However, you CAN'T buy any CW stuff for awhile, you have no choice. That makes it worse in my book.

So,

It's VERY silver age, but with all Morrison's nutjob ideas. Superman signal watches, ray guns, and lots of 50's style sci-fi with updated feel. It's very light, very fun and quite good.

I'm grateful that Nightwing was spared, but not even explaining it? That's lazy, as is releasing something that you plan to change in a few months. On this board, I hear how Marvel's all about the money and DC cares more about the fans. Well, here, Marvel delays something, LOSING money, in order to make sure a good product is released, while DC just rushes it out so their precious 52 can come out on time.

X-Factor #10
First and foremost, oh. my. god. The twist shockingly struck me out of the void. Secondly, I voraciously demand more Monet or viscera shall be violently spilled. Thirdly, the book is simply incredible.

We kick off with a four-page flashback, entirely drawn by the same artist who did Son of M, which, might I add, was sheer brillance. Shortening everything, angry mob wants abnormal son out of village, son's father refuses, angry mob burns down house, abnormal son uses his powers and the whole village engulfs in flames. Strangely, we see Tryp and the village, surprisingly, is still intacted and undamaged. Seemingly, they'd gone back in time. He and the boy watch them from a distrance and, "As cliché as this will sound, this is just the beginning," says Tryp obscurely.

We subsequently cut to present time where modern-day Tryp is staring out of the window in his office as his secretary informs him of Professor Buchanan's absence. We later learn that this man is a scientist working with Singularity Investigations on developing a virus specifically designed to eradicate mutants. Buchanan stumbles across the X-Factor through the Daily Bugle newspaper and goes to them for help.

Jamie wakes up only to find out that his dupe has been sleeping around with, not only Siryn, but Monet as well. Jamie asks Layla if they slept together or not and she answers the latter. Layla later responds hopefully that she's saving herself for their wedding night.

Guido whistles down a street and bumps into Buchanan. He tells him that he is being hunted, obviously, by Singularity Investigations. Apparently, they want to silence Buchanan. Unexpectedly, they fire a rocket launcher at both Guido and Buchanan. They survive and go to the headquarter where Buchanan reveals about his involvement in the development of a mutant-killing virus. This, expectedly, causes Jamie to burst out at Buchanan in an acrimonious dispute. As Jamie settles down, he orders Guido to drive Buchanan to a bank that holds evidence, tying Singularity Investigations's involvement in the development of the virus.

Rictor drops a visit at a medical center where Pietro's office is located at. Apparently, Rictor misses his lost mutant powers.

As Guido drives Buchanan to the bank, he gets a phone call from an unknown person. Three guesses who. "Change in plan, Prof," says Guido and KRUUNCH, he smites Buchanan on his throat. Something similar to Stall boisterously stomping his foot on one of Richie's thugs on his throat in A History of Violence, but less movie-y and more cartoon-y.

That's basically it. Color me surprised. So, Guido may or may not be the traitor. If he is, why was a freaking rocket launcher fired on him? Granted, he'd still be alive, anyway, so...yeah, that pretty much nullifies the last two sentences. I still think that there's more to the ending that meets the eye. The exchange between Layla and Jamie was disturbingly comical. You can't not love Layla. Pietro sitting comfy in his clean office amused me. After what happened with HoM, I'd expect the Inhumans, the X-Men or ANYONE would be turning the world inside-out, looking for him. Apparently, they don't give a rat's ass, with the Civil War going on now. Wolfsbane got three panels ?? Come on, she deserves more than that.

Great read. I dub thee the pick of the week.

Cable & Deadpool #31
Sure, it wasted a few pages with no-dialogue panels of duct-taped Deadpool sitting alone in a room and violent outbreaks, but they, quite frankly, were needed to stimulate comedy and ferocity and it sort of worked.

As usual, we have the Fourth Wall recap. Then we cut to Deadpool, fighting the Resistance members, including Captain America, Falcon, Goliath, Daredevil and Hercules. Cable reveals his position in the war and bribes Deadpool to be on his side, but Deadpool refuses and fires his tranquilizer gun at Cable, but the darts ricochet and hit Deadpool on his face instead, thus putting him to sleep. They mummify Deadpool on a chair with duct tape. A whole two pages of Deadpool trying to get out of the duct tape used and Cable returns to tell Deadpool that one of the members was killed by, apparently, Thor. "Bodyslide by two" and they teleport to the White House in the Oval Office. Deadpool asks to leave for a leak and Cable talks to the President about the unannounced F.S.I., a.k.a. "Fifty State Initiative", and about how it could lead to a calamity, possibly mirroring the "Days of Future Past" scenario. The President's men forcibly take down Cable and he knocks them out by downloading the Library of Congress into their brains. He asks the President to rethink his position. Deadpool gets back and he is ordered by the President to apprehend Cable, dead or alive.

I just want to say, Hercules overshadowed Deadpool in terms of drollery. He's like the Squirrel Girl, but more manly. And Thor killing one of the Resistance members doesn't sound dainty. I'm hoping he's a clone or brainwashed. Or ANYTHING. Just the thought of Thor working with the government is incongruous. And this part was pure comical gold:

Cable: "Looks like we're on different sides of the fence here. I'll double whatever the commision on the Superhuman Activities is paying you."
Deadpool: "My principles cannot be bought!"
Cable: "And I'll give you a bigger badge."
Deadpool: "Oooooh--can't/must conflict...! No! No! Not even for a bigger badge could I betray my Uncle Sam!"
PFFT PFFT PFFT PFFT PFFT PFFT PFFT
[Deadpool shoots at Cable as the darts ricochet back at Deadpool's face]
Deadpool: "Wow. I'm feelin' reeeeeally good right now..."

Obviously, we will see Deadpool and Cable going at it yet one more time in the next issue.

Young Avengers & Runaways #2
Both Wells and Caselli are doing a great job so far. Superbly paced, great dialogue and remarkable art.

Director Maria Hill goes to the Cube and asks for one of Warden's inmates to go after the Runaways. Warden goes on and on about how the society is a living organism, the superhumans are an infection and how they need a maggot to "place in a living organism, seek out infected tissue abd consume it efficiently ruthlessly." He reveals Noh-Varr, a Kree super-soldier, gene-perfected with insect DNA, in a containment tube. He only obeys Warden and is given the scent of a Skrull to track down Hulkling and Xavin.

Back beneath the La Brea Tar Pits, the Runaways duke it out with the Young Avengers. Hulking fights Xavin, Hawkeye fights Nico, Chase and Old Lace fights Speed and Karolina fights Wiccan while Stature rescues The Vision. Sadly, Molly is down the entire battle. Sniff...sniff. As they settle down, they come to learn how much they have in common with each other. Xavin finds out that Hulkling is the savior of the Skrulls who will end the clan wars and unite them once again. KRAK! Noh-Varr arrives and does a kung-fu whack on Xavin's neck, obviously breaking it.

No! No! Just when I was about to like him. Bastard. But I'm sure Skrulls can't simply be killed just by having their necks broken. Absolutely astonishing issue. The interaction between Speed and Molly was adorably cute. Nico seemed to have developed a crush on Patriot. Chase taunting "Hmmm, you're right. I don't even have any powers...oh, but wait! I do have a psychic link with a prehistoric eating machine..." Speed and his facial expressions in the two panels were too funny.

The issue was a damn great read.

X-Men #190
First off, the cover art is staggering. And I'm glad that I jumped in earlier because the issue kicked all kinds of asses. Art, check. Pacing, check. Dialogue, check. Story, check.

Iceman exploded and Sam is thrown into Colossus. Northstar and Aurora invade the X-mansion. Northstar makes Cyclops's beams blast in all directions uncontrollably, thus hitting all the Astonishing members. Northstar finds Sabretooth's cell when Anole is happy to learn that his favourite teacher is still very much alive. There's still good in Northstar as he warns Anole to back off, but is too late as he knocks him out with his elbow. Northstar tears apart the doors to make way when Rogue suddenly punches him with her gloveless fist, draining him of his powers.

Meanwhile, Aurora is keeping the X-Men busy as she fights X-23 and Mercury. Mystique uses her shape-shifting ability to her advantage and appears as Aurora to exploit her split personality. "Get back inside me!" she says and passes out. Somehow, Iceman manages to revert back from steam to ice and also passes out. Mystique gives Iceman a mouth-to-mouth. Downstairs, Rogue is duking it out with Northstar. Cable arrives and knocks Northstar out with his telekinesis. Serafina, obviously, didn't expect Cable's interference and decides to drop the Xavier Institute a visit invisibly cloaked. Cable goes to Sabretooth to get an answer out of him. Sabretooth reveals that they are the Children of the Vault and they're planning to kill Sabretooth and anyone he may have spoken to. Bobby is resting in the infirmary while Serafina slips into the room undetected. She reads the notes on Regan Wyngarde, a.k.a. Lady Mastermind. Sam senses that someone else might be in the room. Serafina then unexpectedly pulls both Sam and herself into his mind.

Northstar, awesome. Rogue, double awesome. Mystique, triple awesome, despite how little she was in. But judge not by the quantity, but by the quality. Cable interrogating Sabretooth was sheer amazement. I loved how disorderly his holding cell was. Chair and table were literally ON the ceiling. Although, Cable wrestling Sabretooth with their foreheads was sort of awkwardly funny. I love Rogue.

Emma: "They saw an angel, but I am fairly sure she was a post-production effect."

Rogue: "You mean like your hair?"

Real question: IS he a 40-year old virgin? ok, he's not 40, but is he a virgin? Do all his dupes get the sex, while he whines about it? Funnily enough -- serious question here.

Admittedly, I took a read in the Snakes on a Plane 1-out-of-2 movie-to-comic book while in the store and couldn't stop grinning. People were looking at me like I was on something.

Ah. Lex, I totally forgot that awesome jab at Emma, Rogue said. Thanks for reminding. That was quite a giggle ^_^.

Dear lord? Giggle? I'm getting gayer.

Tsk, the art was awful and literally unfinished.

I'm all for saving nightwing but you know having it make sense would have helped.

Anyway my one review
Action Comics #842
Let me start by saying this is a very well made comic. The art is lovely, colouring nice and unobtrusive, lettering works very well also. The writing is skilled, each character has a distinctive voice and the plot progressess at a good pace. I even like the plot its a nice wee kooky sci fi concept with a giant alien auctioneer selling off bits and people of the world, I am predetermined to like this comic.

But, I don't. Superman once again feels like "generic hero man" and is reduced to a guest star in his own book. Then the bit at the end, its been done to death "superman loses his powers but still fights the good fight anyway" heck thats what the entire arc previously was about. My issues with this are twofold one: I do not think supermans actions are "special" to him. I am not sold that he is the only one who would "dare". The comic tries to sell the last couple of pages as momumentally heroic and something only superman would do but falls flat because (as mentioned) a) depowered supes seen to recently and b) ANY DECENT HERO IN DC WOULD DO THE SAME THING.
As an aside I am sooooo bored of people depowering superman so they can write him, its interesting on occaision but after that its cliched and forced. I want to read about the SUPERman not just a man.

Oh, and on a She-Hulk note...wow, Dan Slott is SO good at continuity. I TOTALLY forgot about the Star God. What a cool reach back in Marvel history.
