As for X-Factor; I think it's weird that Siryn and M are both attracted to Jamie on some level if they were willing to sleep with his dupes. That should make for some tension later

The replacement of it is practically an admission.

I do not believe you can honestly look at the two page spread in metropolis and tell me that constitues a finished piece of artwork. The background is only roughed in and the colouring is barely done also.

Sorry, but I don't read books for art. I care more about story and characters. Unless the art is so damn bad my eyes bleed, like Lefield bad, I could care less. Great art is all well and good, but I'd rather have my book on time with average art, than late with "great" art.

But it is important. Comic books are a visual medium, people want nice words, with pretty pictures. And when they drop down $3 for a book, they want the best possible product. DC just admitted that we didnt.

I'd be willing to bet that people didn't really care as much as the people in this thread. The art was passable and the book came out on time. Now, if people want, they can get a prettier version. Not a big deal.

And another thing...what if a company pushes a book back because the art needs to be better, and the thing comes out and it's pretty much the same as the rest of the series. Or worse yet...WORSE.

That would be a million times more awful, IMO.

It's a priority to me. If I am cruising for a new book to read, the first thing I look at is the art. I prefer fairly realistic art as compared to retro cartoony like X-statix. I couldn't stand that book mainly because the folks just looked so horrible in it. I perfer David Finch and Tan and Lienel Yu and that level of percision. I do like the art in XFactor which isn't super real but it's still clear. Either way, art can make or break a book for me.

I don't know if I'd say it was my #1.....but it may very well be close....give you an example.....I'm currently buying the Wolverine title, for no other reason than it's an extremely relevant Civil WAr tie in....once Civil War is over....the Wolverine title is gone.....why?....cause I hate the freaking "everyone's a stumpy midget" art!!

No, but you're in agreement with me. If the art is THAT BAD, then yes i drop it. Invaders is a good example.

Dude, I read Playboy for the articles. Playboy's pics are all soft crap that doesn't permeate the senses like the dirty, dirty stuff I look at at least 3 days a week. I pretty much hate Playboy's spreads, they don't do it for me. When I'm reading a Playboy, I'm on the toilet, and I'm not looking at pictures, I'm reading.

If Marvel said "Look, gang...we need to have a fill-in artist to get this thing out on time, we apologize. But the director's cut will have all the better art for you collectors", I doubt they'd get half the hate reaction they did by announcing all the late titles.

Come on, Doc. I really don't see how ANYONE can say that what they did was fine and ducky. We aren't talking about a bonus sketch book thrown in, we're talking about DC admitting that they rushed out an inferior product and making us pay $25 if we want to see the best version. How can you defend that kind of practice? You're practically bending over and asking for another.

Excusing it will only lead to it being done again. Some of the classics have been late in the past, and no one grumbles about it now. But you can be damn sure people will grumble if what DC did becomes a norm. That's a sure-fire way to kill the singles market. Who wants to pay for an inferior product? I'm all for bonuses being thrown in, but the main package should not change.
