Bought/Thought January 4, 2012.1

He was like a superman, and spider-man was his hero. So even with the skrull attacks it just didn't make sense. He rejected the idea of the skrulls taking over earth as he was intended to be, so he would have been the first person repelling them from invading.

Valen the outcast #2 - Digging this book. Brings me back to when I was reading Conan comics as a little kid, but it definitely has it's own flavor. The scene with Valen literally putting armor around his heart was inspired :D

D-man has gotten the shaft too..bendis seemed to elevate him to a scary version of crazy. I'd hoped somebody would resolve his condition , but had given up.

Bendis isnt to blame, I'm not sure why D-man is such a joke, I mean is he any more cheesy than Batroc? (not that i dislike Batroc)

D-man fits into that "battle star" catagory of cap supporting characters that disappeared or were not used for no real reason.

D-Man was a great supporting character during Mark Gruenwald's "Cap Quits" saga. He evolved pretty good despite the Yellow DD/Wolverine costume. When he was blown up in Cap #248 it was a great moment. Ever since he came back he was turned into a mute homeless joke. Even at the start of Busiek's Avengers run he was a goof because he didn't shower. The fact Bendis made him cry in New Avengers because of his abandonment issues didn't bother me too much because he had been a running joke for a long while.

Him as a joke is all I know. How was he great back in the Cap Quits era?

He was a part of Cap's little team that included Falcon, Nomad and Vagabond (Nomad's girlfriend). Since Steve was stripped/gave up the Captain America moniker, he was The Captain and led the group fighting criminals his own way. D-Man was the loveable lug of the group, like the Rhino when he tries to go straight.

Falcon was the vet, Nomad was the *****e and D-Man was the noble one. He was trying to learn as much as he could from Steve and become as much like him as possible. He always tried to do the right thing on his own and would always ask himself what would Steve do. When he was locked-up for running with Steve, he passed up the chance at being broken out by Sidewinder because he knew it wasn't something Steve would do. Vagabond started to fall for him a little bit and it led to a lot of friction with Nomad. He had a heart condition that he hid from the group out of fear Cap would sideline him so he couldn't help.

Steve offered him the first spot on a new Avengers team (they were broken up at the time). The very next issue though, he was blown up on a booby trapped Quinjet while helping Cap and the Flag Smasher fight ULTIMATUM troops under the influence of the Red Skull (who was in the middle of his own long awaited resurrection story).

He came back and was found by US Agent and Falcon years later in the Arctic. He was mute, living in Avengers Mansion then Bernie Rosenthal lost him in Central Park and he became the leader of a group of homeless people in Zero Town under the city. Around that time he stopped showering and became an occasional running joke.
