Casino Royale Dominates International B.O.

Casino Royale dominated the international box office with $66.2 million at 6,600 theaters in 50 markets, says Variety.

The 21st James Bond film wiped out rivals via a strong second U.K. weekend plus big launches throughout Western Europe as it led in every new market, and posted the sixth-biggest weekend of 2006 internationally with an impressive per-location average of about $10,000.

The film saw the overseas total hit $128.2 million and worldwide grosses total $222.4 million.

Casino Royale took in more than double the combined grosses of the next four pics -- "Borat," The Departed, Saw III and Open Season. The film looks likely to surpass the record worldwide gross for a Bond pic of $431 million, set by Die Another Day four years ago. No other tentpoles of similar magnitude will hit international markets soon and openings are still coming in big markets Japan, South Korea, Australia, Italy and Mexico.

Thanks to Casino Royale, Sony's posted its best year ever in overseas box office with $1.39 billion, surpassing the 2002 mark of $1.31 billion. The Da Vinci Code accounted for $532 million in foreign takings earlier this year.

Normally I don't like to gloat, but where is that *****e bag I was arguing with from the first Box office 2006 predictions? Superman something or other was his name.

Well anyway, OWNED!

Comingsoon's predictions:

Dreamgirls: This is only opening in New York and L.A. this weekend for an exclusive run with ticket prices running at $25, but I'd expect a lot of sold out shows and a per-theatre average between $75 and 100 thousand. It will probably end up making between $70 and 80 million when all is said and done.

Charlotte's Web: $23 to 26 million opening weekend; $130 million total.

Eragon: $27 to 30 million opening; $110 million total.

The Pursuit of Happyness: $19 to 21 million opening weekend; $75 million total.
