Box Office 2006 Part 2

I don´t think there was such a consensus, a lot of people thought movies like POTC2 and Cars were going to make more.

I would go back and skim through a ton of those publications and their 2006 Summer Box Office Predictions/Previews. Superman Returns was pegged to be right at the top with Pirates (Entertainment Weekly put it at $300 million and number one). Point is, no one saw it being in the position its in, behind films like Cars and Night At the Museum. Begins may have been seen as a disappointment to some, but looking at what finished ahead of it, it shouldn't be nearly as surprising.

actually a ton of people did. just not at the hype. do you want me to show you the superman threads at the box office website forums???the general "consensus" was that wb screwed them selves opening superman the week before a movie that wa sa lock for 50 million opening day and 120 million+ opening weekend.

on a further note its not common kn owledge but that 191 million from overseas is extremely imcomplete, fyi.

What statement are you responding to?

that noone saw it being behind cars n night at museum.

holidays=money, not summerl. if wb had released superman in say, december, ti woulda clearwed 250 million with ease.

Are you nuts (on both counts)?

nope.

^ from peopele who talk and discuss n predict box office every day for hours. look at what they said for cars n pirates and then look at superman. most had it had 7-8 of the year.

as for holidays...

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/?yr=2006&wknd=52a&p=.htm

look at the changes. give superman 55 million opening weekendf n then give it 50% increase next weekend.

nope.

I guess that's a yes to being nuts.

I don't give a rat's patooty what a couple of random posters on a random box office forum thought. And really, skimming through that thread, many people had different predictions (many thinking Superman would finish towards the top). I'm talking about the general consensus in the media. Go to Entertainment Weekly, look at ComingSoon. Google "2006 Summer Box Office Predictions". Superman Returns was expected to be in the top 3 at the very least, not finishing behind Night At the Museum and Cars.

the medias the last thing you should look at-superman was the summers marketable/marketed movie.

medias always off. in 2005 it was kong, in 2004 it was troy, in 2003 it was hulk, in 2002 it was star wars, in 2001 it was pearl harbour, in 2000 it was dinosuar, in 1999 it was wild wild west, in 1998 it was godzilla, in 1997 it was jurassic park 2, ect.

you cant ever trust the media

P.S. warner brothers and ew are owned by the same company; so obviously theyll predict it big. and cs! is run by an enormous superman fan! just read ismost anticpated of 06 from last year!
