I've just realized the absolute perfectness of this band [arguably, one man]. Folky? Pfft. Emo? Pssh. Whatever- they're amazing. And this is a thread documenting it.

Oh. I did a search, nuffin came up.

yeah, one of my favorite bands as of late. like you said, they may not be for everyone, but definitely amazing if you are in to them. also, poison oak is my favorite song right now but the ones you mentioned above are great too. i thought bright eye's was only a nebraska/midwest thing for a while. :o

Poison Oak is a good song. But I suppose I havent REALLY gotten into that record, yet.
Im really into their older stuff- i.e. Fevers and Mirrors.
I don't really know how I first heard of them. Umm, I think it was a related link on Youtube? Lover I Don't Have To Love, was the first BE song I heard.

I wish Bright Eyes would be on tour and the bus would spring a fuel leak and the bus would explode and everyone on it would be burned alive.
Crime against music.
Shame on you.
Shame on you. :(

i once heard someone say that Conor's voice sounded like a goat. :o
i dunno, im not saying they're an infallible band, but when they're on they are on.

I don't not agree with you.

They should change their name to Better Cover Your Ears and Not Listen Cause Our Music Sucks So Bad, Really.

Or BCYEANLCOMSBR, for short. :o

Ugh.

DEFINITELY not my cup of tea.

It sounds like an old man sitting in a dark room by himself, sobbing as he's slowly mumbling/singing sad songs to himself...

...you mean NOT? :csad:

I've been a pretty big fan since about the time Fevers and Mirrors came out. I will agree that the music isn't for everyone but no music really is, nor should it be. Connor's song writing ranges from simplistic and flat to being very full with wonderful layering (music wise). He's put together some of the most beautiful songs I've heard recorded in the past few years. I find him to be a wonderful poet that knows just how much or how little musical accompaniment to add. Maybe it's his voice that turns so many people away.

Yeah, just what pop music needs: a whiny punkass who sounds like he's crying when he sings, AND has somehow managed to finagle a whole ****load of indie credibility for no good reason.

GOD I hate hipsters sometimes.

Damn! Double posts are even more annoying than quasi-emo one-man-bands that pretend to be folk music without having any folk music education or understanding of the significance of folk music within American history, human history, or music history, not to mention traditional folk themes, identities, and meanings!

I do love the simpler songs more than the 'layered' ones, but nevertheless, his poetics are imaginative and powerful.
I've just downloaded a lot of his earlier work, and it's....very different. I'm honestly not sure if I prefer it to his newer work?

I still think 'Listen' is one of my fave albums ever. :o

Wow i cant believe theres a thead about this. Bright Eyes is quite possibly my favorite band. His lyrics and the variety of each of his records are quite amazing. Thank you for making a thread about this. People should learn more about the Indy Music instead of the whole stupid Breaking Benjamin and "Headstrong" whatever that song is. There is so much more and better talent out there you just gotta look for it. For those who like bright eyes i suggest

Two Gallants
The Mountain Goats
The Good Life
Bob Dylan haha
Neutral Milk Hotel
and The Weakerthans

wow way to be immature, at least there are people that write poetic lyrics that mean something, stuff that actually make sense not like those stupid Hip Hop artist out there and Linkin Park. Talk to any Musical Historian Critic and theyll tell you this band is one of the few great things to happen to the industry in the while

Mainstream Music has gone wayyyyyy down south

I hate Conor Oberst and stupid Bright Eyes.

Well, actually, he has a couple of ok songs.

so hate might be to strong a word. Hows about strongly dislike except for Don't know when but a day is going to come.

I just don't like his voice. He can't sing well. But thats just my opinion.

I like Bright Eyes but it can get tiresome after a while. I personally think Oberst was a lot better in Desaparecidos, which my friend introduced me to when he saw me listening to Bright Eyes one time. It's a much more hard rock band than Bright Eyes and Oberst's voice plays surprisingly well on that kind of music.

Also, I don't know if everyone's aware, but Oberst basically took his entire singing style from an alt-country singer named David Dondero, who's awesome in his own right.

Yeah David Dondero is awesome and Desaparecidos really rock out

Bright Eyes are truly excellent... I really didn't think anyone had a problem with them.
