British soldiers' apology for entering Iranian waters

It said in the papers over here that the notes were either not written by Faye or written under duress.

There was a massive panic here when they all got captured, since most of them are from Plymouth [where I live]. Several people I know in college are related to them. I wish they'd focus more on the other 14 guys. They have families too!

Iran is just trying to start ****.

To quote John Oliver
Iran we will **** you up.

Stupid Iranians...I love how they went, "Yeah HUH! :cmad: You WERE in our water! :csad: LOOK! Your coordinates were 13329.4 blablabla by 57.02224 blablabla! SEE?!?"

Smart British People: "Those coordinants are in Iraqi water."

Iranian Idiots: ".....

:ninja:.................I mean, your coordinants were 13379.4 blablabla.............:ninja: "

:whatever:

I think coerced apologies is a very positive thing right now. It shows Iran is basically wetting their pants and looking for a way to give them back while retaining some sort of dignity.

agreed...

...those don't look like coerced/scripted interviews to me. however, i'm getting a faint wiff that's making me think WWIII is right around the corner.

WWIII isn't around the corner. Nothing is going to happen. Even if Iran executes the British personnel, there's no way that the US or Britain will go to war with Iran. It's just not feasible. The US is spread so thin as it is, and I doubt Britain has the capacity to wage the kind of war with personnel that it would take against Iran.

What will likely happen is more sanctions. If it goes to a voting at the UN, there has to be unanimous agreement. It's hard to tell if one of the main members will veto anything or not.

However, WWIII is not likely to occur. It's just not feasible. The Iranian president knows he's playing a winning hand because no one's going to invade his country.

there's nothing right NOW that points directly to WWIII and you're right about Iran having a winning hand but if it DOES happen i wouldn't be surprised one bit...

Wild theory: the British sailors that were captured don't want this situation to escalate any more than it already has. So, they go on Iranian TV and publicly apologize on the behalf of the British government to appeal to the Iranians. Thus, throwing some water on the ember before it becomes a blaze.

don't these guys know britannia rules the waves:cmad:

Bah. The Iranians are just looking for some kind of leverage, and they're not going to get it. It's in their best interests just to let the soldiers go.

And this is the country that "some" of you don't mine having a nuke.

^

We actually don't really have the right to tell countries whether they can or can't have a nuke. Not when we have them ourselves.

They should, what they did is totally ilegal.

Iran isn't really helping their case by holding these sailors hostage.

But then again the US has Gitmo where people don't have rights and are held indefinitely without trails. So much for moral authority.

Iran is just parading the soldiers on TV so they can look like the big boys.

God, Iran's acting like those 1.5 grade average jerk-offs you were in shop class with that have nothing better to do than see what kind of stuff pisses people off.

Agreed. I saw a Current pod recently that had two guys going to North Korea. At the navy museum, the main exhibit was their version of a similar capture of a US sub. So all Iran wants is enough footage to make a biased video on the whole matter to brainwash their people (good luck, though--its been known for some time that Iran's youth balantally disobeys the government.)

And this is the country that "some" of you don't mine having a nuke.

I just have to rely on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, that both the U.S. and Iran have signed. Article 4 of the NPT views the peaceful use of nuclear power as an inalienable right of every nation.

The Bush admin is wanting people to take them at their word. My question is "Why should I?"
