Well, isn't this just wonderful. The back-left hinge of my Notebook computer's fan apparently cracked earlier this week and is broken right now, and I have to be very careful not to move the screen downwards to avoid further breaking the hinge. Making this even worse is that my Notebook's warranty expired and from what I gather it won't be cheap to fix the hinge. Ugh, I hope Best Buy can fix it for a good price.

Punisher,

I hate to say it...most likely better off suffering, or getting a new notebook. =/

I called Best Buy yesterday and they told I'd have to pay $35 to send it to their laptop exchange department so they could look at it and from there they'd give me the price. I was told the price varies, and when I called a Gateway representative, I was told a minor repair like this can cost upwards of $199 :|

It's functional at least which is good, but it'll take me a while to be able to afford to replace the hinge. I took some good pictures of the cracked hinge, so hopefully that's enough for the tech guys at Best Buy to determine what the cost to fix it will be. I'll let you know.

I had the same problem. The hinges were made of plastic and tightly wound during manufacturing and that's what caused it. I had the thing, which was a Balance like this one for little over 3 years when it finally died. I'd turn it on and it was click and nothing happened.

I got a Dell through their outlet store. Much better quality.
