PS3 hardware slow and broken

Oh please. If the Inquirer had positive news, no doubt you'd have made a thread about it already:o

...a thread where everyone else would thrash the source, accuse Zenien of being a Sony ****e and then routinely proceed to piss on the PS3 as usual. :o

Probably since Zen has a perchant for picking websites out of leftfield for information.

I pick sites that are reliable, not the INQUIRER. List examples of my picking sites from left field. The nmost recent one?

engadget is NOT a left field scource for information.

It doesn't take a genius to know how the PS3 controller works from how it was demoed at E3.

There has been positive PS3 news lately like the HDMI situation, new screens for certain games. Heck I could make a thread singing the virtues of MotorStorm, or the new info about Heavenly Sword, but I'm not. So there goes your arguement. I might make a thread like taht at some point, but for being the person who argued against the DS being DOA against the PSP, the value of the Gamecube, and the awesomness that would be the Revolution, you folk sure do seem to love painting me into a corner.

Back on the topic of the Rev controller, for something being so superior, it would sure suck to use that controller with one of the top 3 Nintendo franchises out there, Super Smash Brothers. Why would they develop SSMBrawl with using the traditional controller if the Revmote was so superior in all regards to every controller that came before it.

And the PS3 also retails for 500 dollars.

Zenien, I think that's because a regular controller is just much more suited to a fighting game like SSMBrawl, but that's just me.

Don't be sad. :(

Think about Guitar Hero 2. ;)

HAve you beaten the red brick house? :D

How far are you anyway?

I actually started the game again, cause I had missed the Dragunov, and I have it saved right outside the red brick house, and I guess I'm about to save the doctor, but Jesus, the soldiers always catch me.

It's ok Gamera, you can tell me the truth, you're never going to beatht he Red Brick house, are you? :(

Tonight, woman.
Tonight.
I have my tranquilizer darts, the shotgun, the machine gun, the sniper rifle, the nest, my sloppy stealth skills and badass martial arts CQC stuff, I am unstoppable.

ps3 still is gonna lose out...the wii60 will rule all.....only people that use their pc's to play video games will care about the ps3...supply and demand

Is that because Phil Harrison said the PS3 will replace PCs?

he said the Linux-based operating system on the console's hard drive will have enough processing power and nongaming functionalities to render traditional PCs--most of which use a form of Microsoft's Windows OS--moot... ..."We believe that the PS3 will be the place where our users play games, watch films, browse the Web, and use other [home] computer functions," said Harrison. "The PlayStation 3 is a computer. We do not need the PC."

He didn't ACTUALLY say that the PS3 would replace PCs...

I wonder if Sony has prepared a whole line of utilities for the PS3 because as a machine that mimics the function of a PC, it's also susceptible to many of the same problems as a PC. If it's got an OS, can go online, browse and play games on the web - then that means your PS3 is at a possible risk of being infected by spyware and viruses that could compromise the security and integrity of your machine. Not to mention it would require periodic maintenance schedules for things like scanning your hard drive for errors and defragmenting data as well as updates to it's antivirus software suite and spyware filters at regular intervals.

As if having to deal with all that for my PC alone isn't big enough a headache for me, no way am I going to pay $500-600 to endure the same problems again. Of course, all of the above would be a moot point if the PS3 doesn't sell well enough to begin with but that's not at all what Sony wants now, do they? :)

And let's not forget that it's useless to even dream of the PS3 offerring anywhere near the kind of massive support, options and flexibility you get with a PC. Little ol' Phil's far-fetched claim of the PS3 filling the void of a PC is...very much ******ed, to say the least. In my estimation, this whole idea of a gaming console turned computer might turn out to be one of the PS3's biggest undoings right alongside it's crazy price-tag.

"The PlayStation 3 is a computer. We do not need the PC."

I can't understand how anyone would read that statement and possibly get a different meaning out of it.

I hate to defend Sony here, but the quote IS taken out of context. Here's the whole original paragraph from IGN:

IGN said:
Spiegel Online asked Harrison if he was concerned about the PS3 competing with the Microsoft's Xbox 360's ability to seamlessly network with PCs via Live Anywhere Harrison said, "No, this doesn't concern me and I don't think that it concerns the consumer. When you buy a game console, a primarily entertainment device, then you only want that. We believe that the PS3 will be the place where the users will play, watch movies, surf the web, and use other computer entertainment functionality. The PS3 is a computer. We don't need the PC."

So you can see that his comment about PS3 not needing a PC is that he does not think a PS3-PC hook-up, like the XBOX360-PC hookup is necessary.

Now do I agree with him? Yeah, kinda. Sure, it's not necessary, but it's a very nice feature, to be able to stream music, photos, and movies from my PC to my console.

Well in my defense, here's the entire quote from Gamespot which paints things a little differently:

Gamespot said:
Besides defending the PS3, Harrison took time to evangelize the device, which will launch worldwide this November. In particular, he said the Linux-based operating system on the console's hard drive will have enough processing power and nongaming functionalities to render traditional PCs--most of which use a form of Microsoft's Windows OS--moot in terms of home entertainment. "We believe that the PS3 will be the place where our users play games, watch films, browse the Web, and use other [home] computer functions," said Harrison. "The PlayStation 3 is a computer. We do not need the PC."

Emphasis added.

it'll be a home computer along the lines of an amiga or atari st. which were far more popular that pcs for home use for a good while. in this network age it should be able to access the media content on your pc hard drives aswell. that is unless there is some reason not to that i am unaware of.
