In the wake of "The Dark Knight" it would be a really keen business idea to get Bruce Timm and Paul Dini back together, along with Kevin Conroy and the rest of the creative and vocal talents from 1992's "Batman: The Animated Series" and have them return to their innovative "dark deco" animation style, in order to do an adaptation of Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" as a Direct-to-Video film.

Doing any adaptation of "The Dark Knight Returns" now would be smart business, as the title would get people interested - whether it's your know-it-all-batfans who want to see TDKR brought to life, or you're naive-movie-goers who think it's a direct tie-in to the current "Dark Knight" film. It just makes smart economic sense. Combining that with the most beloved incarnation of Batman - the 90's animated Bat - just plays off things more. A lot of fans of that Batman enjoyed it's 1997 re-style, and the Justice League series. But a lot also miss that inovative "dark deco" style and universe created specifically in the 90's cartoon. Doing an adaptation of "Dark Knight Returns" using those foundations would be so brilliant, as it would indeed be a return of that character after a dozen + years since the original style was retired.

I've thought this was probably coming ever since the "DC Universe" DTVs started. It's only a matter of time, I think. It should either be a straight-out adaptation based on the book with a Miller-ish style and NOT the BTAS cast... or an adaptation that takes place in the BTAS/STAS continuity with that style and cast.

I'd definitely like to see something with better budget/production values than the usual DTV stuff... more like the slickness of Gotham Knight. God, imagine a Timm BTAS style look but with the money of Gotham Knight.

Well, Timm recently said - I think at ComicCon? - that he wants to do something in "his unique animation style" so that's why it occurs to me that they should adapt Dark Knight Returns. Two birds, one stone. ;)

I'm posting the idea because, I seem to have this knack of things I post becoming made in Hollywood not long after. Coincidence? Likely. Great minds and all. Who knows? ;)

If they make an adaptation of Batman: The Long Halloween, I think Bruce Timm should collaborate with Neal Adams.

I just want Dini involved because Timm, by himself, isn't that great of a story teller. Dini has moved on to more successful things, while Timm continues in WB animation. He's a great animator and did great things; but he was part of a collaboration, and on his own, he's not as good at the stories. Dini was the story man, IMHO. They should also get Boyd Kirkland to direct it, he directed some of the best TAS episodes.

They should get the animaters that made the short "Crossfire" in Gotham Knight.Hot damn that was crisp animation.

But I agree Timm is a fantastic producer but he's needs his team around him.

Crossfire is written by Greg Rucka and produced by Production I.G.

I'd like to see an animated Long Halloween moreso than a Dark Knight Returns...I'm beginning to come round to the idea that TLH is one of the greatest Batman stories ever written. The Tim Sale style in animation could be wonderful. I'm not sure the DC animated universe would be allowed to be as dark and grim as TDKR, it is unremitingly bleak.

Can someone explain to me again whether or not
Dent's wife was one of the killers?
Cause that threw me off at the end and made me think the story was a little WEIRD.

Like others have said I think it's only a matter of time until we get TDKR on the list of DC DTV animated movies.

The idea of Long Halloween as an animated movie (particularly if it's done in the Tim Sale style) is an appealing one. I would worry about how much they'd have to cut from the original story though to fit it into a 75 minute time slot.

As for Timm and Dini reuniting, I wouldn't care what DTV those two made, I'd just love to see them back together and working on Batman. It could be The Further Adventures of Batmite and Halle Berry's Catwoman and I'd still show up if both Dini and Timm were involved.:woot:

don't try to hard - the ending is a total cheat and makes no sense at all.

I believe that...
there where three Holiday killers. One was Alberto Falcone, the other one was Harvey Dent himself (he killed Carmine Falcone on a holiday. Gilda could have done some of the killings, though. She knew the techniques, and have access to all Harvey Dent files.

And Kevin Conroy or Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Mark Hamil as The Joker

Richard Moll or Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent/Two-Face

Keri Russell or Angelina Jolie as Selina Kyle/Catwoman

Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon

I wanna see TLH animated movie from WB & DC, it would be great

Actually, I fully expect TDKR to be the direction Nolan and Bale are heading in. Expect a Batman 3 and then 20 years down the line The Dark Knight Returns. Ala Rambo, Live Free or Die Hard, Rocky Balboa and Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

I agree. I would love to see The Dark Knight Returns and The Long Halloween, but not as 75 minute movies. I know 70/75 minutes are the running lengths for most, if not all, animated movies. But i think they should make exceptions. "DC: The New Frontier" was awesome, but it felt really abbreviated.

Agreed.:brucebat:

If they mix Timm´s animation and Sale´s designs, it would be a bomb!

a DKR animated DVD would be fantastic, i've been advocating the idea on other boards for a long time. Legends of the Dark Knight was one of my favorite episodes of the animated series particularly because of the DKR homage segment of it, and if they did it in the same style as that, it would be perfect.
