Bryan Fuller to remake The Munsters for NBC

I hope the mean spirited stuff has been removed from the pilot. I hated that. The Munsters and The Addams Family were always extremely odd and cooky, but they never actually hurt or killed anyone. Well, in the case of the Addams unless threatened by someone like Debbie in Addams Family Values.

Basically that's why those two families were famous and identifiable. They were weird, but still just normal families at the end of it all.

yeah, i'm not sure how they're going to make the munsters "darker." i'm really curious about this project.

They'll probably make it darker by not having the iconic theme and by making Herman less of a lovable goof like he was in the original.

i hope the new series is going to be set in los angeles (like the original) and not some random small town (like all the other supernatural shows). it was fun to see them mesh with southern california culture[/i].

That kind of happened a bit with the 80's series remake when the later seasons had the Munsters with different "80's threads" to modernize their storylines.

Fuller has yet to fail in that department. The cast of Pushing Daisies was amazing.
But didn't that show get cancelled it's first season?

Second season. After having 9 to 10 million viewers pre-writers strike in the first season. Hell, it's first season only had like 9 episodes because of the strike. It was mainly a victim of the strike and ABC not promoting it having returned from the strike.

With vampires and werewolves being all the rage now I wonder if they'll cast a hunky teen as Eddie Munster.

Gawd. NO.

If they wanna throw a token hottie in there, the show gives them a perfect opportunity: Marilyn. And then the family takes turns showering her with pity over how plain/ugly they consider her to be. :o

YES. Thats really important for them to include IMO

I'm iffy on it, but I've watched every remake based on the show thus far. If the remake makes it to air, I'll definitely give it a shot.

I'm not familiar with The Munsters (although they do remind me of The Addams Family) but with Fuller on-board and now Singer, consider me interested.

i am sure some people will be mad LOL
The pilot episode, which is to be directed by Bryan Singer - who also was behind the camera for the "House" pilot, Superman Returns and X-Men - will focus on 10-year-old Eddie Munster who is unaware that he's a werewolf, and that his family is composed of terrifying creatures. The madness begins when a baby bear attacks a scouting trip, only it turns out that this "bear" is actually Eddie transformed into a werewolf. Eddie is unaware of his metamorphosis and it forces the family to move in order to protect the family secret. The coming of age story gets weirder as he fights against his family when he learns of a shocker: they're a family of flesh-eaters!

A few other random character notes: Lily Munster has an eating disorder and eats suicide victims. Grandpa Munster is a 600-year-old shapeshifter, and Marilyn Munster was adopted when her mother tried to eat her as a baby.

I'm not so sure I buy all that, but I actually don't really mind it. :o

You know nothing of the sort.

I'm still going to give the pilot a chance.

Guys I think what they mean darker, is that the humor maybe darker similar to Dead Like me, Pushing Daisies (of course) and a few others.

Lily eats suicide victims? Oh man, I know it's bad, but I laughed so hard.

If anyone can make it work, Fuller can. :o

I'm convinced even he can't make this work. This sounds grade A bad. This isn't The Munsters at all.
