Theres alot of potential here.... using some of the more famous classic monsters such as The Mummy, Creature From Black Lagoon, The Bride, etc in stories.
Seems like its off to a lame start though.. Jerry O'Connell, Portia DeRossi... I dont dislike them or anything, but the choices just seem...bland and uninteresting.
They're not going with the aesthetic of the original series. That's been established for awhile now. If Fuller was approaching the story the same way as the original, I'd say go for it, but with the approach he's taking, it makes sense.

Like I said before, I think it's a Gary Oldman Dracula thing. Looks like normal Izzard around the family, but around strangers, he makes himself appear older and more feeble. Or, well.... like a grandpa.
