Why do they call themselves Autobots and Decepticons?

How do the Autobots know the earth names of the Decepticons?

How do the Decepticons know the earth names of the Autobots?

My best guess is suspension of disbelief.

The Comic Adaptation explaines it way better how they got their names.

Well on Bay's part it is a little lazy to explain their names...although in the G1 toon it was worse. The characters look like their Earth forms and have their Earth names while on Cybertron...save money on character design obviously.

BUT the inhabitants of Cybertron do NOT have Earth like names. The female Autobots for example: Elita-1, Moonracer, Firestar, Chromia and then we have Alpha Trion. It is just an easy way out to explain their names but it doesn't bother me.

They don't get little Transformers babies, but they do fall in love and lead normal relationships like humans would.

Well he was voiced by a 50 year old English guy i just wish he would have been voiced by a young guy becuase through the movie i felt as if Bumble Bee was the youngest of them all.

If I remember correctly, the closest Prime would have to a "girlfriend" is Elita One. There relationship stretches all the way back to a point in time when Megatron was still gaining power on Cybertron and she and Optimus were still known as Ariel and Orion Pax respectively.

Why does it matter? I am obviously a Transformer fan and I was curious. You Obviously don't know or you wouldn't come in here with smart comments. I mean honestly. If you don't have anything to add to the post why read it or why bother to comment? Why on this forum does people have to be so rude and flame. The allspark healed his voice, although why it took so long for him to utter a word doesn't make sense. IT didn't fix his legs because he broke them after, not before he touched the box. And I actaully didn't like his voice and thought it was the only one that seemed out of place. He sounded like Michael CAine as alfred.

Ok I figure he was called Bumble Bee because he is yellow but why in the world would an Autobot from Cybertron be called an Insect from Earth? Why are the other Autobots called what they are, Ratchet, Jazz, Iron hide? Optimas has an awesome name though. Not ranting just curious. I mean those are Earth names and doesn't sound like Transformers would be named something like that on Cybertron.

I just assumed that when they came to Earth they took Earth names because their Cybertron names couldn't be pronounced/translated to English.

Naturally I get a smart ass comment. Yea I am from Cyberton, why do you ask? Yea I bet there is a Bumblee Bee on Cybertron. I know they are toys and that is the reason they are named that. I just wanted a Transformer reason why they are named what they are. I thought maybe they named theirselfs different names when they got on Earth.

two basic explainations.
the one given in the script to this movie is they chose their names from the english dictionary to fit their personalities.

the one i prefer is that their names are the closest english translation to their cybertronian names and the nature of their names is somewhat tribal, you know like native american names but fit into a mechanical lexicon i.e. Laserbeak, Ironhide...etc.
