Transformers Should there have been more backstory?

The movie presents the robots as actually having distinct personalities, but even at the end of the movie, I didn't care one bit about any of the Transformers.
I think it would have helped to have more backstory, with the events and war on Cybertron, a whole lot more about the cube (such as showing it actually producing life other than that scene with that silly cell phone), why the Autobots and Decepticons are at odd, why each Autobot chose the sides they did, etc.)
I guess I liked the movie, I just think we were kinda dropped right into the middle of the plot, and we had to play catch up for the entire film.
I know it would have stretched out an already long movie, btw.

I agree, there should have been more backstory. I would have loved to have seen more of Cybertron and their war on that planet. I wonder too if we will get the Quintessons in any of the sequels. I would love to see them. Have the Quintessons be responsible for their creation and using them for slave labor. Then, the Allspark gave "life" to the TF's ultimately leading them to rebel. Maybe we can get a prequel movie someday.

I think I saw this on wikipedia or something , bout their personalities , guess it matches also in the film

Like Ratchet never felt really like a soldier , and ended up joining the autobots in the war , because they ( particularly Optimus ) had more respect and good eyes for life.

And Ironhide similar situation was inspired by Optimus's word . This one the hardcore fans may know much more , but if I'm not wrong wasn't Ironhide originally supposed to be Optimus's bodyguard

Anyway u can say this , on the side of the autobots much of them ended up joining by having their respect won by Prime

I'm actually happy they kept them kinda mysterious, as they will have time to expand upon this in the sequel(s). I actually hope, for ours and their sake, that the movie is pretty much all robots with a little human interaction.

I can't wait to see Cybertron, Shockwave, and the others.
