With E3 headed our way just after the weekend, we knew we had to leave our readers with something promising while they wait for the big show. With that in mind, we've been granted permission from Activision to announce that Call of Duty 3 is headed to next-generation consoles this fall (that's 2006, folks). Here's the official line provided to us by Activision for the announcement:

"Through the eyes of four Allied soldiers, Call of Duty 3 brings players closer to the fury of combat as they fight through the Normandy Breakout, the harrowing offensive that liberated Paris and changed the fate of the world. Developed by Treyarch, Call of Duty 3 is the follow up to the #1 next-generation game and is scheduled for a 2006 release."

X360, PS3 and Wii versions

Does the video consist of gameplay footage? Because if not, then I'm not wasting time downloading 100 MB of prerendered CGI.

Oh and it sucks Infinity Ward is not developing COD3.

No gameplay footage of CoD3, Just a CGI sequence. Its nice seeing all the other CoD games together at the start though

I hope they keep the physics in there. Which they should.

Contradictory.

Infinity Ward would be making the "follow up to the #1 next-gen game". This thing is more a follow-up to "Big Red One".

Becuase the world was crying out for another ww2 game.

Now, I'm not saying there haven't been some good ones (COD2 and Big Red One) but how many ww2 fps can you do? Same weapons, same enemies, same levels.....now it's just cranking them out for the sake of it.

I will own you all on COD3!!!

Treyarch are developing this game (they also did Big Red 1) which leaves Infinity Ward free to make 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare'

I'd love to see the call of duty series move beyond ww2

I must confess, as much as I am beginning to tired of ww2 games, I am still interested in this and possibly airborne, although they MUST be running out of ideas.
